Oklahoma Cop Deanna was kidnapped by Robbie, her estranged husband, and beaten in the cab of his truck over a harrowing four-day journey. They were pulled over by police and she was taken to the hospital. In spite of Deanna's devastating injuries, Robbie was not arrested. Private Violence, a feature-length documentary, follows Deanna's journey as she rebuilds her life and fights to place Robbie behind bars. Accompanying Deanna is Kit Gruelle, a domestic violence victim turned advocate who navigates the complex world of domestic violence courts, shelters, and law enforcement.

This work presents a domestic violence survivor's compelling journey to justice and personal freedom. The hardship of facing up to her abuser who almost beat her to death, the invaluable help offered to her by a small support network of abuse victims when she managed to escape, in terms of emotional support and legal advices and represention. The overcoming of the shift of blame posed on her as in "why she didn't leave". We also learn here why it is so difficult for victims of domestic violence to leave and denounce their abusers. This woman's journey is one of big and long fight and her courage is inspiring. Must watch!

I believe lots of people are getting tired of the one-sided, short- sighted views of the domestic abuse issue. Domestic violence is a horrific problem, and there is no disputing that fact. However, no one ever seems to talk about the countless places where the legal system has run wild, prosecuting and convicting both men and women of terrible acts of violence on nothing more than the word of a "victim." No one talks about the horrendous abuse of the system by accusers, and the ruined lives of the people falsely accused and wrongly convicted. I'm waiting for a piece that presents a truly unbiased view of the entire issue, and looks at how to curb the rampant abuse of the legal system for personal vendettas, revenge and personal gain. Until then, this piece and all others like it will be nothing more than "crock-umentary" films, and not documentaries.
