First of all the movie is horrible and unbelievable. I did not relate or feel for any of the characters. Second of all, Bill belongs in jail...and none of this was addressed. He takes a shower naked with a high school boy, has sex in the tent with boy present with another chick, smokes weed with his mentee, wrestles with him while giggling at the fireworks store, and has this boy ride him like a horse in public. How are we supposed to overlook this. I would understand if these were two male adults possibly exploring their sexuality, but this does not apply to a married man hanging out with a teenager. This is just not acceptable. Why is this not the main thing being written about in these comments?

I am very touched because this movie has a lot of messages. And Aaron Eckhart is very excellent acting in this movie. In the scene of swimming, I feel a lot of things and It comes to mind the movie titled "The Graduate(1967)". It seems like this movie. First, this and that movie are finding the real identification and the hero is wandering about his life. and the angle of the camera is really good. It seems like the same swimming scene, but it's not same in each swimming. it's very deep message to me, that the life is not showing to others, it's yours so you find your way. I feel. Yes, that's great. and I really commend this movie.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. An interesting nuance about 'the kid' and his role as an uninvited catalyst. Makes one wonder who the mentor really is. Love the outdoor camping scene with an awesome song. Eckhart with his naive yet relentless courage, he swims his way into heroism. And as one who swam laps while evolving, I really related.

This film is about a pathetic man having the balls to change his life and the kid who helped him. It shows a definite learning curve especially for the lead male, Aaron Eckhart. Lighthearted and enjoyable, It follows the man, Bill on his journey in improving his life. The flow of the film is excellent and the incongruity of choosing Jessica Alba as the teenage boy's love interest all come together to evoke various emotions as you watch the movie. The ending is unexpected and the antics of all the characters in this movie are really good. It is a light plot so there is only so much the actors could have done with it. Although not the greatest movie in the world, it is definitely worth watching

I really enjoyed this movie, but some things needed to be improved. Aaron Eckhart was really good as Bill. However, I felt that except for Bill, Paul, Mr.Jacoby, Jacoby Jr., Chip, and Jess the rest of the characters were underdeveloped. The Kid (Logan Lerman) did not have a back story, which I was especially disappointed with. I really enjoyed the fact that it was the mentored mentoring the mentor ... but a kid who knows it all and has it all is rather boring. I was waiting for him to have family issues or something, seeing as he seemed to always be with Bill, and I don't think many parents would let their kid be with an adult that long. I could be wrong I guess. I really liked the character of Jess and thought Elizabeth Banks did an excellent job. Finally, I am a bit confused by the ending. I could not interpret the kids reaction to the fireworks exploding from his locker. He seemed mad, but I thought it was supposed to amuse him ?

This is a cute little movie. Aaron Eckhart is wonderful as the main character, being the regular guy that he so well plays. It makes you laugh, chuckle and feel. I have to say though that I am not sure why Jessica Alba was casted in this role. She adds nothing, I believe that a Zooey Dechanel or a comedienne with more depth would have made you engage more in the relationship between her and Logan. Jessica Alba is a sure way to get the guys to rent this movie, but it's also a sure bet to ruin it. All over a movie well worth watching, although I have to look away when Jessica Alba enters the dialog. Sorry.

There's two stories here, the one for public consumption, and the underlying subtext -- the part most people completely miss. *sigh* A cursory review of "red flags" that might have tipped you off: 1) Young, svelte boy in revealing scenes (shower, underwear) and close, intimate physical contact with main character. 2) Gay brother and mate feature prominently. 3) Main character shaves body. 4) Main character hadn't banged his hot wife in six months and couldn't get it up (see deleted scenes). 5) A brief shot of main character and boy holding hands. It's about a closeted gay man. Look deeper.

It was simply just okay. Not the most realistic film ever made, but it did have its moments. While some points were funny, most of it couldn't have taken place; aka- when a teenage boy has fireworks go off in his locker, while class is in session. However, if you ignore the many parts that easily couldn't actually take place, you may be entertained. Bill is a relateable character, but has very strange mannerisms. Go into this one with an open mind, or you will definitely be disappointed. As for Jessica Alba's character, don't expect much of anything, as usual; her acting is mediocre at best.
