There was nothing worth watching in this movie. The set-up was unrealistic, the soundtrack was distracting and annoying, and I still don't understand why they put the interracial menage-a-trois in the bus station. My class at Trinity watched this as an example of how people don't fit society.

I drove a long way to see this film, from Riverside to Santa Monica. Well, it was long way for me back then anyway. I loved it so much I sat through it twice that night, and came back a few nights later and sat through it twice again. This film works for me on so many levels I can't fully describe it, but I definitely identified (and still do, to be honest) with Keith Carradine's Mickey. Chong and Bujold are appealing (especially the latter) and Leslie Ann Warren has never been better. Rudolph and Carradine have at least one connection, by the by--the both worked on "Nashville".

If you look at the reviews there appears to be no middle ground. People either love this movie or hate it. I loved it. Definitely off beat. Absurdly funny. If you loved Big Trouble in Little China, a movie that came out couple years later, this will be your kinda movie. The 80's had some gems.

Spoilers herein. In preparation for this, I rewatched Bujold's first real film role in `War is Over,' an amazing film about the continuous, risky journey of the unattached toward meaning. Even then, one knew that we would have a lasting icon for the self-curious mystery of woman. Since, we have had her in few interesting roles. Here we have a quirky little piece of ensemble talking angst punctuated by bedroom farce. And in the midst of it, we have this hypnotizing creature both as the actress and the character, in fact one gets the feeling that the relationship between the woman and her character(s) is much like the relationship between Ann and Dr. Nancy Love. Performing fills this woman with a charm that will fade from only a few men's dreams. Doesn't happen often. Ted's Evaluation -- 2 of 4: Has some interesting elements.

Alan Rudolph has a quirky sensibility that makes all his movies worth watching once, but the pieces usually seem not to fit quite right. But this time is different. The story is well-crafted, witty, light-hearted, like a Cole Porter lyric. Cinematic cliches are confounded: we're sure someone is lying, but it's all true; a nervous breakdown seems inevitable, but she holds it together nicely; we expect a downbeat ending, but we're charmed instead. Lesley Ann Warren's usual metier is the TV movie, but it's hard to imagine someone better in this role. If other Rudolph efforts have discouraged you, try this one. It really works.

Saw this when it came out. Still vivid in my mind I add another two cents to say its worth viewing again. Good writers, production and cast, Nice year for this fast movie, set the path, so to speak.

I just saw this film, having recorded it on my ReplayTV. I liked it very much. I am a fan of Genevieve Bujold and try to see her films. It was occasionally a bit confusing and took a little while for everything to sink in. Some characters, such as Zack really didn't make much sense. Also, what was he doing in a Studebaker? The poker game was fun, and even had a Goethe quotation, which I remember from way back in college (the late fifties). Does anyone else think that the final scene is a recreation of the final scene of the Graduate? As soon as I saw it, that it what came to mind. Am I nuts, or not remembering, or is it really so?
