The story of Chevalier is a wonderful one that needs to shown on screen. The costumes and the art direction are excellent. But that's it.
The script is appalling. And herein lies the problem with Chevalier. From the first scene with the duelling violins ( which is nonsense and didn't take place) it goes downhill with nods to slavery, women's rights, populism, etc
When you compare this to Amadeus released nearly forty years ago which was a cinematic high mark at the time with multiple Oscar wins, there is no comparison. The broad strokes of the script have the makers of Chevalier trying to repaint the Mona Lisa with a catapult.
Such a crushing disappointment.

A ridiculous piece of propaganda turning a well-known and accomplished compose snd socialite into a leader if BLM movement in pre-revolutionary France. With a total disregard of not only historical truth but a basic common sense. A French marquise ordering champagne at the bar in what looks like a British pub is a particularly dreary scene. Buena Vista Social club set in 1787 Paris is also an achievement. How do such movies get funded and then path editorial boards? The last and best non-sense in this parade of ignorance, stupidity and naivete is the post movie message that the music of the protagonist was personally banned by Napoleon. Of course!
