Envy

Short and sweet this movie was an absolute piece of s!?$ period! It never should have been made,had no plot or coherency and the attempts at humor failed straight through the film. Don't rent this crap much less buy it save your money and invest it in something you will actually enjoy. This movie ain't that!

Ben Stiller and Jack Black are both considered talented actors. Just not here. Neither man shows why they are so popular. Christopher Walken, on the other hand, stood out. J-Man is quite a character. At least for this type of movie. Let's just say he is superior to Captain Hook in that NBC live production. The weirder this movie gets, the weirder he gets. Amy Poehler does nothing for me but annoy under normal circumstances. She does even less here. On broadcast TV, the question everyone wants to know the answer to may have been slightly different than the one in the original version. And I suspect one word not used on broadcast TV was used a lot. But if all you want to do is laugh at something bizarre, and just escape from your own troubles, this just might work. Tim regretted not investing in what he considered a dumb idea. Someone probably should have had Tim's intelligence not to invest in another dumb idea, but I'm glad someone did.

i registered on this website just to place a good review for this movie, this movie is by far one of the funniest Ben stiller/ jack black movies ever made. the whole time i was watching this movie i was laughing my butt off. it is hilarious, trust me it is so funny. the storyline may appear slightly dumb to those non imaginative audiences but for anyone that likes a good time and enjoys using their imagination, please watch this movie. give it a chance and watch the movie before you downplay it. please it is so funny ya ll you won't regret watching this. by the way whoever thinks that this movie is dumb and a waste of time really needs to rethink their position, and I'm just writing more because the website is making me type more in order to post this but oh well ya ll should really go see this movie it is extremely funny and has very good twists

Sure, i am a fan of Stiller, Black, and Walken ( more cowbell, baby..). I thought this had a few laughs, especially Walken, he was a hoot. It was about poop, and it did stink, but Walken hid the stink. I still think it had it moments. the Merry go round, and archery set. great stuff. that is why man made DVDs and scene selection, those scenes save everything of this movie. Rental fer sure, or bargain bin time for this movie. Give it a try maybe it will get better as i watch it. Average movie for the generation X'ers. Better than some of the stinkers out there, and those don't deal in number 2's..Be wary, but you know it might be a gem.

This movie is terrible. I usually try to take the mickey as much as I can, but this movie isn't worth it. What were Jack and Ben (not to mention Christopher Walken) thinking? Two of the funniest men in modern cinema and they couldn't even make me smile. Plenty of wincing and cringing, but no smiling. Terrible. Don't waste your time with this stinker! How do movies like this get made? And who thinks it's going to be a good idea? Who pays for this crap in production? What a waste of money, and I bet the cast and crew are ruing the day they got involved with this absolute flop. How did I sit through it? Pocket flan? What a crappy movie, no joke.

With a cast that includes Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Rachel Weisz, Amy Poehler and Christopher Walken, how could one go wrong with a comedy? The answer, in this case, is poor writing and direction. Barry Levinson's is poorly developed, inconsistent and overall a weak film. Some of the lines made me cringe. Even Jack Black and Ben Stiller couldn't do much to rise above the bad writing and Amy Poehler is terribly wasted. The only good thing is that all five actors have good chemistry and perhaps because they work well together, they, especially Weisz and Walken, manage to draw at least a few chuckles in some sequences. Given the premise, this could have easily been an engaging dark comedy. Unfortunately, Steve Adams horrendously messes up the screenplay that 'Envy' barely stands a chance. I don't know why a talented director like Barry Levinson chose to do this movie. It's a pity that a promising cast is wasted in it.

Envy is not one of the best comedies I've seen. In fact, it's not even a comedy. It's more of a new version of Dumb and Dumber that isn't funny. Dumb and Dumber was funny. This wasn't. This follows the story of Jack Black playing a guy who thinks of an idea called Vapoorize, which if you spray it on poop, it disappears. Ben Stiller doesn't think the idea is a real breakthrough, until Jack gets rich and Ben is there envying him of all he's got. This is not one of Stiller's best movies, because Stiller is a really runny guy and he doesn't deserve to be booed in a movie like this. If you have nothing to do, grab this movie. It'll waste nearly two hours of your time. But I wouldn't normally recommend it.

oh,my,this is just not good.this may have the designation of a comedy,but it's not funny.it is however boring and lame.Ben Stiller and Jack Black are in this one,so there should be some potential for laughs,but somewhere between the green lighting of the picture and the actual filming,things fell apart.just because something looks like it might be funny on the page,doesn't mean the movie will actually be funny.for me,the jokes all fall flatter than a pancake.i did watch this all the way through,in case it became funny,or at least amusing.even watchable would have been better than nothing.oh,well,such is life.at least i can warn others about it.assuming anyone reads this comment.after that,i absolve myself of any responsibility.since i'm in a generous mood,3/10 seems fair for "Envy"

I took one look at the front cover of this movie and just hated the look of it. I love Ben Stiller, however, so I gave it a go. The blurb on the back of the DVD gave a pretty clear indication what it was about, so I wasn't surprised when I watched it, and expected it to be slapstick dribble. However, while I do think it was a little strange in some areas, and characters were quite unrealistic, I actually found it quite amusing. Most of the reason for this was Ben Stiller, I think his comic expertise shone through, and made me laugh quite a bit. Without him, I think this movie would have been terrible. Having said that, I admit that it must be a pretty bad movie if the only reason I liked it was because of one single actor. Overall, funnier than I expected, but just too darn weird, with quite silly characters.

This movie was hilarious. When I saw it in the theaters with my friends (who are very skeptical of movies, usually we just make fun of them instead of watching) we were the only ones laughing. That's probably because everyone who wanted to laugh had to be cool and not. Anyhow, the concept of the J man is the funniest ever. Christopher Walken makes this movie. Yes, Ben Stiller is not funny, but he never is. I hate him. Jack Black, who is usually great, is only mediocre, but still makes this worth watching. I have spent a lot of time on IMDb and usually I am not surprised by the ratings given. However, when I saw this, I was a bit shocked at the 4.3. It should be at least a 6.3. Come on, there has to be some people who love this. I recommend it especially if you are a Black or Walken fan, like me.
