Perhaps I should preface this by saying that the previous Hindi film I watched was Kambakkht Ishq. Thus any film after watching that turkey would have a better than even chance of being entertaining. Ten minutes into this film and I was wondering whether I had chosen wisely and to be fair the first half of the film could have done with some judicious re-editing to tighten it up a bit and remove some truly superfluous stuff. Thereafter however, the madness just pulls you in and the second half of the film is a comedy blast. Despite the absurdity, the clichés, the plot holes and everything else that might be wrong with it, the reasons that this film succeeds are simply because it does not take itself too seriously and it has the Deols. The whole film rests upon their very capable shoulders and they pull it off with ease. Its almost as if they were using each other to boost their own performances like some sort of springboard and got into a little unspoken competition to see who was best in the process. My money is still on the old man! Which is not to say that the supporting cast is any less capable, for in general they are more than able to hold their own with the Deols in full flight. Sure there are some minor quibbles in the casting but overall it is as strong a cast as I have seen in a Hindi film. Special mention for Kulraj Randhawa, someone I have never seen before and wondering why. No slouch as an actor, she is undoubtedly beautiful with the most mesmerising eyes and a gorgeous smile which are used to excellent effect in the film. The music for the most part is wonderful and serves the film very well indeed. Like the rest of the film, the music gets better the further the film goes. Not classic cinema by any means but damn entertaining, this is the sort of film that you can pull off the shelf every so often and watch again as if for the first time. It is one of the very few films I have ever seen twice in one day, and still enjoyed it. Overall a solid 7/10 pushing towards an 8/10

I am Deol's fan(specially Dharmendra & Sunny) and know that they could better than lot of people think. There one of the first home production was Dillagi a good movie and good songs, then Apne was also OK and now YPD. The major problem of all these movies I have found is length of the movie and unwanted emotional scenes which attracts to only few people (mainly punjabi's). if Dillagi had climax scene only for 5 mins instead of 15-20 mins It would have been a HIT. If Dharmendra had cried lesser in Apne, it would have also been a HIT. And if they had not showed first half of YPD in Banaras which doesn't suit either of the Deol's, This would have also been a HIT movie. Dharmendra and loving son Bobby was doing 80's conning in the Banaras which is not possible in 2011 and on top of than charming Bobby has to do romance with punjabi girl that too in Banaras and suddenly movie take turn to PUNJAB when real fun starts and which everyone was hoping after watching stunning movie trailer over internet :). It was more like DDLJ kind of drama but more like JAT punjabi style not like Sharukh khan style but it was full of fun, hilarious. I would like to give credit to Mukul Dev which acted really well as drunken punjabi. At the end I would recommend movie to all the Deol's fan but also wanted to write my feeling regarding this movie as well that Deol's cannot make audience cry in funny comedy movie which I guess is become their trademark.

Yamla Pagla Deewana is a movie full of energy and the Deol charisma assuring entertainment for the masses.The Deol magic is maximum utilized again after apne(2007) and the movie relies on the image of the Deols. Dharmendra is a delight to watch on the screen with his wits and emotions.Bobby Deol comes up with one of his best performance and shows his comical skills along with keeping his old lover-boy-romeo image.Sunny Deol catches the limelight by his Rajnikanth style action with a macho-man image(what he does the best) and also shows his light humor quotient.New actress Kulraj Randhawa does her job well and is a promising talent. Direction by Samir Karnik is excellent and he make the audiences,esp the masses to go woo with a perfect mix of Masala-action,comedy,romance,songs and all..Few let-backs of the movie are a slow first half,average editing and exaggerated fights. Music by a bunch of music directors,like Rdb,Anu Malik and Rahul Seth suits the movies theme well and entertains the audience;esp the title song and the songs Charha De Rang and Sau Baar,which are choreographed equally well. In a nutshell this is an entertaining Masala movie-exploring the flavors of the true Indian cinema integrated with drama,emotions and humor,recalling the good old days of Bollywood. Ma rating:8.5/10

Never seen a movie which endorses slapstick in all its elements, be it love, humor, marriage or relationships. Yamla Pagla Deewana is a very good entertainer if you keep your logical senses at home! From a critic's eyes, YPD is a poor movie with bad editing, bad direction, fishy music, long plot, huge running time (150 minutes) & a rather chunky screenplay filled with gaudy Punjabism. The actors have performed well, but the story goes haywire just before the intermission and after that, a comedy of errors is set out. Emotions outplay the climax with a clichéd ending. Farce is used at a very high rate & overall, this movie maybe a one-time watch but not a collector's taste. BOTTOM LINE: A jolly good entertainer but lacks cinema potential. Promos for YPD have made it a must watch for everyone and the movie fulfills its promise. It starts with a story of lost father Dharam (Dharmendra) and brother Gajodhar (Bobby) in search of whom Paramveer (Sunny) comes from canada to India. He founds them at the start only but the problem is to make them loose their habit of mugging up people and bring them back to his mother. The funniest parts come in when he joins them. After Interval movie picks up pace and gets funnier. In between Gajodhar falls in love with a sikh girl sahiba (Kulraj Randhawa)and a new funny story of trying to run with that girl starts as her 5 brothers wants her to marry an NRI only. Paramvir helps them to run but gets himself involved. Then Dharam gets in it and stuck. Then the whole family gets involved in this matter. Good Jokes on sunny's supernatural hulk behavior are everywhere in this movie. Bobby's role is different from all other movies. Songs are average except Title Song. Movie is an absolute watch for everyone.

Deol's are back with a bang. Good Movie to watch. Lots of Laughter and action, A little bit of emotions. Sunny deol an NRI lives in canada. comes to India to take back his father and younger brother who were the biggest thug in banaras. But Bobby deol fells in love with a girl and her brother take her back to punjab. Sunny deol comes with a plan. and they go to punjab. to get their love back.Sunny deol great acting as action star with his 2 1/2 kg hath. bobby deol acting is OK. Dharmendra the new young man with his dance and action. First half is nice with lots of laughter and little action. The second half is icing on cake with lots of funny moments and confusion with the final action sequence of sunny deol is cherry on top.

Previously three Deols came together in APNE which was a boxing family drama. With YPD they venture into new territory - comedy. Is this attempt successful ? Yes ! This movie is about journey of sunny paaji to India from Canada in search of his father and younger brother. So first half is dedicated to formation of plot and is based in Benaras. Real fun begins in second half in punjab. With bizarre situation created they succeeds in making you laugh. Dharam paaji, sunny paaji, bobby all are good in there performances but special praise should go to Anupam Kher for his hilarious performance as eldest brother of heroine. There is no much innovation in story, music is average. Overall a nice entertaining movie. My rating - 7/10

Sunny Deol, an NRI settled in Canada, is searching for his father (dharamendra) and his younger brother (bobby deol) for a long time, without any success. His search finally gets a new hope when he gets to know that a person with similar face and traits has defrauded a visitor to his house. He lands in Banaras India to get them back. His father refuses to acknowledge him as his son but his younger brother (who still doesn't know that they are brothers) persuade him to keep Sunny, thinking that his muscular prowess will help them in being more successful. Will Sunny gets his father to acknowledge him and how, is what follows. Apparently, the story is same old re-union types, but I enjoyed it. Movie makes no attempt to make sense, or to be logical, which was refreshing. First half is predictable, but still enjoyable at the same time. Second half is NOT exactly predictable except for the climax, and is the best part of the movie. Kulraj Randhawa looks absolutely stunning. Sunny Deol is the most lovable character in the movie, sets the screen on fire whenever he comes there. Its a pleasure to see Dharmji on screen again, fighting and dancing. Chemistry of Dharam and Sunny is unmatchable and so are the scenes with Anupam Kher. Anupam Kher is brilliant. He easily anchors most of the scenes he is in. Mukul dev surprises and makes me smile whenever he is on screen. Bobby deol has a lot of on-screen time in this movie. He doesn't exactly disappoints, but is overshadowed. He plays his part honestly. Movie doesn't have any raunchy or slapstick humor. Humor comes from the story and characters. Its a movie made with a lot of love and care, and it reflects on the screen. There is no need to carry or use your brain for this movie, its the kind of movie I like. Its a movie you will find hard not to enjoy.
