Luv'd this flick - Seasoned acting talent Bill Nighy does a superlatively under-stated job of carrying the outrageously hapless criminal trio of himself, an early-in-her-career Emily Blunt and unknown (to me) Rupert Grint. The comedic timing and "chemistry" between the three was smart & flawless so that the pacing of engaging along with the narrative was highly enjoyable. It reminded me of the great "A Fish Called Wanda".
Only reason I didn't give a full "10 stars" was that the plot line does sort of incoherently unravel a bit near the end - like lots of films, the best part of the story line falls short of filling the quota of a full 90 minutes or so of requisite standard commercial length - but it was light, and funny and entertaining over-all, and talentedly played and filmed, so who cares about plot coherence. Enjoy, if you can find this one! :-)

I laughed the whole way through. I'm not doing a long review, Nighy was brilliantly deadpan, Blunt annoying as hell and gorgeous, Grint super as the would be-clown-made-good and just good some old British farce. The pace and script were spot-on. I only took off one star because I felt the overall production needed just a little more oomph and not enough was made of Freeman, Everett and Fisher. An instant favorite!

Bill Nighy is a high-priced, mother-dominated, methodical and lonely assassin. He's hired to kill mischievous kleptomaniac Emily Blunt after she rips gangster Rupert Everett off with a forgery of a self-portrait by Rembrandt. Predictably, he ends up protecting her instead. Rupert Grint (from the HARRY POTTER series) is along for the ride as an apprentice. Old-fashioned crime farce is a remake of a French movie from 1993 (when the ideas might have seemed fresher), has a few scattered laughs, but overall the high quirk factor is debilitating. With Eileen Atkins as the wheelchair-bound mother, Martin Freeman as a rival assassin (with very white teeth), Gregory Fisher, Rory Kinnear and Geoff Bell.

OK, I'm 3 pints to the wind (high ABV), it's New Years Eve, and I just finished watching this. Regardless, I love Brit Chit - Father Ted, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, etc, (in general), so... Having established that, I LIKE THIS MOVIE! Bill Nighy makes me laugh with a subtle expression. Emily Blunt? I love her and I want her. (but not in a stalker way, lol) She's just so friggin sweet. Rupert Grint was very likable and (I expect) should continue to have a fine career. The other Rupert and Doctor Watson (u know) were good bad guys. Sufficiently despicable. And Mom? DAMN! Thank goodness she isn't mine. Maybe I'm prejudiced because I identify with the "older" dude getting the fine young babe (partial spoiler), but I thought it was a well paced, good, light-hearted comedy.

What an utterly pointless film. I don't remember when i saw something more disjointed, where character development is assumed and clichéd, where the stars are called on simply to do their thing, without bothering to put together a strong script.
The funny bits, aren't funny, the "I wonder what thats about they will explain it later?" bits are obvious and forced.
The actors themselves, are fine, i pity they had to wallow through this muck.
Terrible directing. Terrible editing.
I am shocked this is currently rating at 6.8 its a total boredom fest.
If only I could get me 2 hrs back, id have got nails hammered into my feet instead, would have been more enjoyable.
Worst thing for me is I've seen the leads in other movies, where they played more or less the same roles, and they were awesome. Goes to show how at the mercy the actors from the creative team on a movie, and this team... wow. So rubbish.
