Okay, to judge this accurately as an action/fighting movie we need to take into account the martial prowess and choreography of the fighting. Now so far as dirty boxing goes, Undisputed isn't bad, but compared to the unfettered mixed martial arts action of the sequels, Undisputed 1 doesn't quite do the series justice. While Wesley Snipes is clearly a fantastic boxer with stupendous on-screen technical skill, the limitations of simple boxing may end up boring some of the more discriminating fight fans in the audience. Having seen the sequels to Undisputed, I can only imagine what kind of brilliant choreography and martial arts action Wesley Snipes may have been able to achieve had he not been limited to traditional boxing rules.

I missed this film in the theaters, and man;am I EVER SORRY that I did!! It has an EXCELLENT cast of characters,a well developed story and plot. Along with plenty of action. If you're in to fight/boxing movies,I HIGHLY suggest you check this one out!! It easily rivals the "Rocky" movies;and is easily on par with "Rocky IV" for hero vs villain contrast. The interaction between the characters is supreme. To see Wesley Snipes play opposite Ving Rhames is not that big a stretch. But,to see them on the screen with such a great actor a Peter Faulk is mind grabbing. Fisher Stevens, and John Seda playing side men to Snipes and Faulk respectively was wonderful. The ending is something to leave you feeling in awe.

If you are a fan of any of the above, then "Undisputed" is definitely worth a trip to the cineplex. This movie has been described as a guys movie, but ladies trust me, there is something for everyone (shower scene - smile). Ving gives an awesome performance as the bully you love to hate , while Wesley is the underdog that everyone wants to root for. Toss in a little prison life, add a little downtrodden boxer and mix it with snippets of the life of the former heavyweight champion and you have 90 minutes of pure escapism. Good fun, great date movie.

Observing actor-fighters enjoying their action and the associated violence brought this ex-fighter-inmate back half a century to when a young inmate fought to the death (unless someone stopped the fight) while incarcerated for violent behavior. When we really wanted to get a fight over with and kill an opponent we used sharpened fencing sabers that were originally strictly intended for sport and to keep our minds diverted from killing the custodians in the institution who starved and beat us until we developed our fighting tactics so that we could kill anyone within a minute. But we felt that it took too long to kill a man using our bare hands so we generally fought with the sabers that had been donated by outsiders who believed we would be happier killing each other than the citizens on the streets. Any former inmate will see himself in this film and reflect that he is a champion merely because he survived a dozen homicidal contests.
