I watched many years old with my heavily pregnant best friend. The main character loses her child to sids within the first 10 minutes. My friend sobbed for the next 2 hours. The movie was pretty average overall. Natalie Portmans character was very unlike able.

I just watched this movie at the On Demand. It was an impulse buy after watching Black Swan, which I've seen probably ten times already, at least 4 times in theaters. The movie was okay. It had a good storyline, and a great cast. I love Natalie Portman, but found it weird that Lisa Kudrow was in the movie.
Without spoiling the film (I would call this a "film" not a "movie,") I think this shows Natalie Portman's great range as an actress. From this, to No Strings Attached, to Hesher (which I saw when it was at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010), to Black Swan (not to mention her early day performances in films like The Professional). You'll have to see it for yourself (not my favorite film of all time but only because it makes me sad), but a film that makes you think about the complexities of life.

Even though her character is a jerk to start with, Lisa Kudrow is one of my favorites. Especially Natalie; who I've always been a fan.

I really did not appreciate the name of this movie. It is totally misleading as to the depth and sorrow surrounding this story. Not that it isn't a well crafted movie, just that I don't enjoy sorrowful movies. They depress me. I just didn't connect with the characters and there was no chemistry at all, between them. I don't understand why this site requires that you write a certain number of lines? I didn't need 10 lines to express my impression of this movie. Normally, I love all these actors, especially Lisa Kudrow. As well as Natalie Portman. However, I just never saw chemistry develop between the two leads. The actor playing William, the son, was terrific. He stole the show.

Natalie might be cast in the role of the "other woman" but this isn't about cheating, nor is it about step-parenting. The whole movie is about SIDS. The movie never really shows what second wives really go through, which is baby-momma drama. There was none of that. Natalie had hardly any dialogue in the entire film, and there was little to no character development. She dates a married man, gets knocked up, breaks up a marriage, shatters a family and she's the victim. Of course the ex wife character is portrayed as a psychotic monster who deserves to have her life destroyed. Men are clueless oafs barely more than children. And then there's the obligatory 'special' stepson who's twitchy and weird and high maintenance. What a train wreck.

This movie had me in tears at points while I watched the struggles of all the members of this extended network of family come to terms with a loss of some form or other. And then the gradual acceptance of the situation if not, the people involved.
Definitely not a comedy but I didn't go into it believing it was anything but a drama. However there are some lighter moments intertwined into the sadness, which only made it more realistic to everyday life.

Laboriously paced film about people you are never given reason a reason to like, and therefore cannot empathize with. Lisa Kudrow's character of the ex-wife is especially shrill and over-the-top. The ending might have been uplifting had I not been driven to just wanting it to be over by that point.

"The Other Woman", directed by Don Roos, is an overall satisfying and turbulent drama set in New York City regarding well-to-do families and inter-relationships as well as extra-marital consequences. At the conclusion, my wife and I agreed that we had some pretty heavy disdain for Portman's character (Emelia) who immorally ignored the fact that the man she was attracted to was married going after him or allowing him anyway. The hypocrisy that the script finally goes over a bit when relating to her own father cheating was a good angle to explore. None of this is really though the focus of the movie but more theatrics. Easily what makes this movie very good is the wonderful relationship that blossoms out between Emelia and stepson William with all it's friction. The ending scene is outstanding and helps you look past other clichés and short-comings.
