Well, usually I complain about IMDB, given their habit of blocking all negative reviews of far left propaganda pieces and Disney films... which are one in the same now... ... but, they have a trivia section and that cleared up a LOT of questions I had. Namely "WTF?" and "That is NOT the Lawnmower Man," and "Why didn't anyone eat a mole?" Needless to say I was expecting an entirely different movie when I rented it from Suncoast Video back in the day. I mean what does The Lawnmower Man have to do with virtual reality????? So, you know, this is a BAIT AND SWITCH and nothing more. But, at least the IMDB trivia section explains why its not what you expect when you sit down to watch it.

This movie seems to be derided almost as much as "Tron" and with as little reason,in my opinion.I saw posters advertising it on the London Underground and thought it looked very cool but i left the cinema with an unsatisfied feeling, but why? Firstly, the Special Effects although very good, are not that much better than Terminator 2 because in the latter movie the action interfaces with the real world;here its almost completely artificial. The Stars are not big enough Brosnan and Fahey are no match for Arnie or Bruce! The plot is good, and quite plausible as Sci-Fi goes and with a neat twist at the end. But overall there simply weren"t enough explosions for the Action fans or enough Spacecraft for the Trekkies, so the movie lost its place in the hall of fame.Personally i still like it a nd always watch it on TV! By the way, critics who can"t understand why Jobe wants to take over the world-he is Mad and has delusions of grandeur-its that simple!

The acting, the pacing, the script, the CG, the premise, the direction, and even the casting is horrible. This might be the worst movie ever made or fairly close to being on the bottom of the barrel. This came out in 1992, but it feels like it is one hundred years old. It did not age well. The script also is written by someone who doesn't know computers. It's sort of like that Hackers movie from 1995. The writer and director did not understand technology, which makes the movie suck even more.

Yes. It's that bad. I'd ask what King was thinking but then I would need several concussions to lower myself to his mindset. Seriously. This was painful. Like a concussion. Huh.. Oh. Wait. Drat. I like the pirate earring. Shoot. Now it has to be two stars.

I did not read the story of the same name, but to anyone who is familiar with his works, it will be quite obvious that this is not and can not be the adaptation of Steven King. This SF film brings a story about a mentally challenged mower who, as a guinea pig of an ambitious scientist, and with the help of virtual reality, develops his consciousness to unexpected possibilities, until his reason kneels before god complex. I like the idea, but the story is very uninspired written and in combination with extremely outdated effects leaves the impression of cheapness and amateurism. I think that some of the effects, such as burning priest, are tragicomic even for its time. The only thing in this movie that I liked is Jeff Fahey, whose presence and performance are quite impressive. Well, two things - Jenny Wright is pretty sexy, especially naked. I can not say that I was bored, but it is definitely a disappointment, especially if you are a fan of Steven King. 5,5/10

The Lawnmower Man has an interesting concept and some good visual effects, but left me feeling kinda empty. I'm a Stephen King fan so I'm still wondering where they got this screenplay from King's short story. Brett Leonard does a good job directing, but the film is weak in the screenplay department.
