This is a very good film that studies the family dynamics of a typical American family. Directed by the Taiwaneese Ang Lee The Ice Storm examines the unstable dynamic of the family in a constantly-changing world. It's a coming of age tale that shows how the discoveries and development of the parents parallel those of their children, and suggests that age doesn't always equate to understanding. Sexually and socially, everyone in this film is groping for answers, whether their age is fourteen or forty. In fact, it could be argued that the teenagers have a clearer and healthier approach to sexuality than their elders. More often than not, the children in The Ice Storm are open about what they want. The adults, on the other hand, feel the need to resort to deception and wife- swapping games to achieve the same ends. This was one of the best films of 1997- Go see it.

Don't mind my tittle I just wanted to have some fun... I just finished to watch Ice Storm and recorded it because of the string and the strength of known actors... I was going to say that I watched it on my 'little box' but actually not, as i have a decent 65" screen, close to a cinema experience. I was quite pleased with it, yet at its conclusion I felt a little empty, this for several reasons. Perhaps the first one being I felt it was unfinished. But also it made me feel that I had never had a life, yet if life had to be like this I'm not too sure I want to have one at all. In all my freedom I have to confess I rather had a "sheltered life" in youth and later. However reading the reviews and ratings that seem to be divided in two groups 85% and 1% of approval. I may not be alone, be it for other reasons, to feel that way. It's definitely an adult theme, but maybe, you may find, also a pre-adult theme - My rating is in the text.

I didn't actually 'like' this movie, as much as I appreciated all the elements that made such an impression on me. I can't of many movies that completely captured the feeling of a place and time in the world. All of the acting is incredible. Its hard to recommend this movie, but it certainly is worth seeing.

A sweet family movie for the most part; very touching and sad. Unfortunately there's some cheating stuff in it involving the parents among some well done tearjerker bits. I love how genuine everything was, it felt like a true story! The best of all these things my aunt was a production assistant for this although she didn't stay in the movie business. I think it's epic and would like others to know that piece of trivia. Spectacular film all in all don't have much bad to say even had a bit of tears.

I saw the film some three or four years ago when it was first released in the UK. I won't say much bit for one fact - I left the cinema totally confused. Not by the storyline. But by what I'd seen. Either a total pile of rubbish - or, a nagging thought said - the most moving and incredible film I'd ever seen. Four years later I've watched the film numerous times - and still, no film has ever left me thinking so deeply about what I'd seen. See it, make up your own mind. Screwed up, thought provoking stuff - the one film I don't think I'll ever tire of watching. Not that I enjoy watching it. I don't. It's awful. Think I'll just watch it one more time....... ARGGGHH!!! See what I mean!!!

It is not a pretty picture, but this film really captures something essential about life in the prosperous Connecticut suburbs in the 1970s. The details are spot on (with the exception of a couple of ludicrous sweaters), and I felt transported to that time and place. Here we have a couple of families that appear to have it all, yet below the surface there are big cracks starting to open. Each member of the Hood family gets to be a part of the narrative. There is infidelity, sexual exploration, a fair amount of drinking, and what looks like budding insanity. Things come to a tragic climax over Thanksgiving weekend and a nasty ice storm. The film is enlivened by many wonderful shots and subtle, sardonic humor. Who could forget the "key party" (not a common occurrence, althou the movie acts like it was - lol!) or the Nixon mask scene?

Yeah yeah, so Americans are desperate for the rest of the world to believe that they lead terrible depressing meaningless lives. It is so boring when all the systems work well. It is so terrible to live in beautiful neighborhoods with no squalor and slums. Boo hoo! Christina RICCI was a volcanic talent back then. Jeez! It is a shame that great young actresses like RICCI and BIRCH did not hit big time in Hollywood. Sigourney Weaver was smoking hot. This film had the creamy layer of all the actors who would later go on to become big stars in Hollywood. It is not a bad film overall. But I had a hard time accepting that these people were sad and dysfunctional. (6/10)

...The song playing in the background at the beginning of the movie, where Paul Hood and his roommate are passing the bong at the boarding school? It's "Dirty Love" by Frank Zappa. What a subtle hint as to the flavor of this movie! At the same time, it makes perfect sense in context, what with Ben Hood and Janie Carver in bed together, Mikey Carver and Wendy Hood making out and later being caught with Mikey's pants down in the basement, Wendy and Sandy Carver in bed together, the key party, Paul Hood with Libbet's head in his lap at her house, and that pathetic scene where Jim Carver screws Elena Hood in his car. The whole movie almost reeks of "dirty love." This having been said, it's a very good movie, in my opinion. But prepare to be shocked, and not just at the ending.
