This movie could have been explained in 10-20 minutes. Instead, they dragged out an elevator scene for close to two hours with a dozen flashbacks, a cliche Russian antagonist and the possibility of a sequel. The trailer pitched an epic super hero movie. What you get is a girl watching her dad get tortured for 1 hr and 35 mins in an elevator followed by her figuring out her powers to kill the big bad Russians.

Wonderful debut from first time director, Antaine Furlong. Brilliant SFX and a breakout performance by a young Charlotte Best. Worth a viewing.

I think the trailer poorly reflects this film so anticipation to what it will be won't. The film is much better than the trailer. I was in Reading Cinema when I watched this and the screen and sound were great. It really keeps you awake. Probably a few leas lift drops for me would have been preferred as I'm afraid of heights but the shaft scenes and her struggle to find her identity and the game the terrorists play on her. The whole good cop bad cop was great and this doesn't give anything away I promise. I'll go again and take my husband as I missed a few clues that I want to find out. It's received strong reviews so far but I'd say if you're over 60 this is not the film for you unless you like sci-fi.

No plot, horrible direction, terrible acting and overbearing sound not heard since Interstellar. Do not waste your time. Student films are more bearable than this drivel.

We got excited by the trailer and went for this movie in Ciniplex South Bank QLD Theater, A lady was there along with 3 kids & 2 teenager...they literally walked out of the movie screen when the torture scenes were shown with no Adult warning. Also the plot is over my ability to understand. So many loose ending with possibility of part 2. The voice over the telephone is so bad that we miss what the story is all about. It really looks like some scene are missing that will put a sense to this movie which the director might have reserved it for part 2....but after watching this movie I am not keen on going to part 2 at all. (Only good part was the Graphics of the movie)

This movie had so many amazing storyline avenues and it took none of them. One character progresses minutely at the end of the film, otherwise it's a lot of flipping and flopping between will they, won't they (no one actually commits to anything) and repeated, slow scenes. The trailer gave it a full sense of storyline, action and wonder. It does not deliver. The actors at least do a wonderful job. It's a shame the story was such a let down.

We watched this last night and despite its mixed reviews, (all though the critic was an 80 year old retiree but the positive were younger generations). Anyway we had mixed feelings about what we were going to see, but I can say the trailer creates a very different picture to the film. The film is amazing. I can see how some won't like this but we really enjoyed it and champion the Australian film maker. Who's actually Irish but lives here. The story is very interesting and smart. Like some comments below you need to bring your attention otherwise you will grow confused. The VFX are amazing, as is the music and editing. Charlotte who plays Aria is brilliant her best role by far. This is impressive in every way and highly recommend it.

Solid performance from lead actor and supporting actor, remaining small cast of Russian (of course) thugs passable. Plot bizarre, turgid and barely understandable, pace slow, action barely evident. Premise that the environment is our saviour laudable but cliched. Not worth watching, as boring as Divergent. I was the only one in the cinema and I'm not surprised. I started tapping out tunes on the arms of my chair to entertain myself.

I am puzzled by some of the negative, unjust and unfair user reviews Ascendant has received. The acting, direction, soundtrack and special effects were all excellent. It was abstract and surreal in parts which required the audience's attentiveness. The storyline might be difficult to follow and confusing for some people but I found the movie totally engrossing. Give Ascendant a chance you won't be dissappointed. Please note: this movie is not for immature moviegoers.
