"Kyun! Ho Gaya Na..." is a very low rated film on IMDb--with a current overall rating of 4.4. I would never rate the film this low, but can understand some folks' displeasure with the movie. It feels like a couple different films pieced together and the chemistry between the two leads is sometime lacking. As for the first portion of the film, it's very much what you'd expect from an Aishwarya Rai Bachchan movie--full of romance and a formula I've come to expect from her films. This formula involves a desire to choose one's mate, meeting and hating a man, falling for the man, some even that tears them apart and, ultimately, the pair meeting again and marrying. I've seen it so many times that the first half felt like a case of deja-vu. The second portion is pretty strange--with a completely different pace and setting. In this second half, Amitabh Bachchan (later for become Rai's father-in-law) is such a dominating presence that if feels more like his film. Only at the very end does the big climax come and the man (Vivek Oberoi) comes to his senses and runs to his lady love. The end. The final result is long and meandering feels much more like a hodge-podge than a coherent movie. Because of this, the film is not among my favorites in the career of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It also has a few bad moments--such as the ridiculous fireworks scene. By the way, if you know who the chef Todd English is, look at the character Ishaan. He sure looks like an Indian version of this celebrity chef!

An overall fun story to watch, but the character played by Vivek should have portrayed some "heaviness" in himself, not just the one that Vivek played. But I guess this film was targeted for the young teenagers, which is why most adults don't appreciate it as much as the teenagers. Of course there is Big B, who plays one of the major characters, with lots of jokes and fun, but I guess the story lacks pretty much behind in scripts...some serious conversations should have taken place between the leading characters? Sunil Shetty and Diya Mirza are nice surprises though, and come to think about it, Diya Mirza herself would have suited more for the role of "Diya" than Aishwarya. Besides, I did not like the way Vivek was fooled because the whole fooling process doesn't explain why Aishwarya had to show strong affinity towards Sunil in front of Vivek himself. However, the songs merit credits - keep up!

This (Kyun? Ho Gaya Na)has got to be one of the BEST Bollywood Romantic Comedies ever! The story line is great and it's great to see Aishwarya in a modern role and she look Hot as usual. The acting by all was great and NOT over done. The perfect amount of comedy, romance, emotions and backdrops. The appearances by A. Bachchan and Suniel Shetty is great!!! Music is good too. Aish and Vivek seem to work well together with the perfect type and amount of chemistry needed for this movie. The ending has a great little twist that just makes the movie soar expectations. Ignore what the critics have said against it and judge it for yourself. I definitely recommended for any day of the week!

"Comantic romedies", as I once called them by mistake, are not my favorite sort of movies, but nevertheless I've hit upon instances I like a lot. Well, "Kyun! Ho gaya na..." is definitely not one of those. The story is one of thirteen in a dozen and unfolds itself without any significant surprises. Already at the very start of the film you know how it is going to end, and that the road towards that end will be tortuous. But then, that is inherent to the genre. Whether such a movie is nice or not, depends pretty much on things like humor, acting, chemistry between the actors and the like. Unfortunately, when it comes to these, KHGN turns out to be a major disappointment. The best memories I have about it are the roles of Om Puri and Amitabh Bachchan. With both gentlemen, you are in for a real treat. Most important in romantic comedies, however, is chemistry between the protagonists, in this case Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai, and unfortunately, that is precisely what KHGN completely lacks. I don't think Vivek is to be blamed for that. He does whatever he can, playing the kind of light-hearted, immature joker we've seen him playing before, too, and generally manages well. Aishwarya, on the other hand, is deeply disappointing. I've seen her playing way below her possibilities in other movies as well, but in KHGN her acting is downright embarrassing. If there is anything at all she manages to convey with this role, it must be something like: "God, what evil have I done to Thee to deserve playing in this movie". I'm curious why. Laziness? Arrogance ("I am the Queen of Bollywood, and whatever I do, I am a mega star anyway")? Deep roots in old Bollywood traditions ("Hurry up folks, in twenty minutes I have to be at the next set")? Trouble in her real-life relationship with co-star Vivek Oberoi? Hard to tell. But one thing is for sure: this horrible performance of hers is enough to destroy an entire movie, including the good work of the other actors. A few more of these sub-standard performances, and no director will ever be willing to work with her - queen or no queen. Besides, Aishwarya is not exactly the logical choice for the role of a young girl of less than average beauty, the type of girl boys tend to neglect. I should add that the movie is way too long for such a thin tale. During most of these 170 minutes I found myself bored or almost falling asleep. Not even because the tempo is slow, but because there is constantly too much of the same thing. Of the entire footage, no more than 100, perhaps 120 minutes is usable, and the rest can quietly be removed: it would undoubtedly make the movie more bearable. A great asset of KHGN is the music. In my opinion, the score would have deserved a much better movie than this one.

The songs were certainly better than average. Aishwarya looked more gorgeous than usual--which is saying a lot. My only complaint is that the director cuts away from the women too much/too fast! A good example is the "no no" song at the beginning, where Ash is with two other beauties in a very cute sequence--but they keep cutting away! Come on, guys, give them at least 10 seconds on screen at a time!! And in the "making of" part of the DVD no one comments on the Russian theme--were the composers really unaware of that? They compared it to Broadway, but that only makes sense if it's Broadway Moscow. Not that that's bad, but just curious they didn't mention it. No chemistry? The same could be said for a lot of movies--you look at the guy being a jerk and you think, "What could she see in him?" But if you just accept it as a movie, it's OK. At least in this movie Diya gives up and goes home and makes Arjun chase her--so she has some sense! The Amitabh/orphanage plot seems to drop out of nowhere--it's certainly not clear from the opening scene that Diya lives/works at an orphanage, but you can see that later. Another few seconds at the beginning setting that up would have been a big help. But Amitabh was certainly funny, and the whole practical joke story line is necessary to set up the ending.

wow! finally the hero of the movie is not a hero but a boy next door. i have completely identified with him. so i have enjoyed watching the movie completely. from start to end not a single scene is boring. the first highlight of the film is the screen chemistry between vivek and ash which is further enhanced by their at-that-time real-life-chemistry. they are a real treat to watch on screen. unfortunately, they are split now. but, i guess, vivek is more suitable to ash than abhishek is(he is the current beau of ash as the rumor suggests). The second highlight of the film is direction which is fantastically done by new comer samir. all in all a good time pass movie if u like novelty. not a run-of-the-mill stuff.

Bearing in mind that I do not speak Hindi and I watched this movie purely with subtitles alone, I have to say I really enjoyed it. My husband is a fluent Hindi speaker who watches Indian movies all the time and I have to be brutally honest and say that I think the Bollywood scene is and always has, been lacking any extraordinary talent. To say that Vivek Oberoi is merely mediocre is to say that the majority of Indian actors are terrible! I do not enjoy the melodramatics, fake crying aka wailing and the stereotype that Indian women are all backstabbing bitches so, Kyun! Ho Gaya Na was a breath of fresh air in the respect that it told a unique love story about true love versus arranged marriage which is an aspect of eastern culture that many westerns are curious and sometimes misinformed about. The music was lovely, especially Dheere Dheere which I often have on repeat. Vivek Oberoi did play something of a childish character but I think it is important to understand that he was written to be this person and that immaturity was part of his reasons for not wanting to take the time and effort to fall in love naturally. There were aspects of the plot that lacked, of course, such as the orphanage subplot which to me was really just 'filler time' because it is traditional almost that Indian movies will be, at times, tediously long. I also found no point to the character of the so called 'Big B' but this could be mostly because I do not have any appreciation for his acting, perhaps because he's not from 'my time'. All in all, I would say that for a sad story about love and life, Kyun Ho Gaya Na is worth reading the subtitles for.

The most annoying part of the movie .. poor story.. poor poor acting by Aish and Vivek... I never liked Viveks acting after Company ... His acting is completely mediocre... and lots and lots of stpidity .. even Big B's appearance could not lift this up... a complete waste of time !!! I don't know why Aishwarya is spoiling her career doing movies like these ... and that jackass Vivek will never learn how to act unless he gets rid of his stupid jackass attitude... This movie lacks everything from a good storyline to proper screenplay ... God knows when will Indian directors learn to put in everything in the right place I would not recommend this crap to anyone... except if you want to waste your time and blame the movie in the end
