I'm sorry but the funny faces John Legend makes trying to sing clean, has lack of acting skills and his not so strong and raspy voice ruined this production for me.

John Legend can sing but he does not know how to emote to convince us that he means what he's saying. Darn shame. The theater people who have lead roles (especially Judas and Caiaphas) are excellent and so are the musicians. The staging is awkward and not very creative.
My biggest gripe for the producers is the fact that they did not credit the wonderful ensemble on IMDb. They deserve their credits!

NBC' s Commercial Fest occasionally interrupted by a modern day classic -- apologies to Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as the cast.

So far it is good, except for the parts drowned out by the audience. Either turn off any mikes for audience reaction or turn up the singers' mikes.

I figured network television would mess this up as they usually do, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I am a HUGE fan of the '73 version, and know all the words by heart, from listening to the soundtrack over and over, more times than I can count. I love this musical-always have. I'm only part-way into it, but I'm enjoying watching and singing along.
Yes, the commercials are annoying, and the audience is loud, but the performances on the whole are impressive. Brandon Dixon is great as Judas, and very nice to look at. Lolololol. The '73 version will always be my favorite, but this is ok. Planning to stay up past my bedtime to watch the whole thing.

I love this musical. I LOVE this musical. I did NOT love this show. I rolled with the "hipster" vibe for as long as possible, but between the overly eager, frenetic acting and singing, and the ridiculous over-zealous zealot-like inane concert screaming audience, it was just NOT a show wherein one could enjoy the themes, the music, the characters, or the messages. It was just too too.
John L. was the least inspiring part of the show. The direction and musical arrangements were the second least inspiring aspects.
Not enjoyable, at least to a fan. This "Hamilton", short, inept attention span of a Roseane reboot culture has slipped so far into a cacophony of mixed messages and unintelligible low-bar reality TV and film exposure that NOTHING is clear enough to vet and feel effectively-sort of like this sentence.
Get it?
Bore--I'll go watch Ted Neely in his traveling show again before watching this dissapppoiment.

NBC ruins it all by interruptions with far too many (not to mention overly long) commercial breaks.

I'll be honest I'm a musical theater geek and I have been very disappointed with the latest shows like hairspray and a Christmas story, but this has been amazing! NBC really hit the jackpot with this one! John legend puts his own spin on Jesus and Brandon Victor Dixon is a phenomenal performer as Judas and blew me away. I hope FOX and CBS and ABC take note from nbc and put on phenomenal performances like this one!
