I suppose you could say this is a fake film for fake times. It looked surreal because it was surreal. Yes, it looked spectacular and lavish, but it was just not real. Just about everything was created on a computer, no trip to Egypt required. The day will come when CGI is so good there will be no need for actors and actresses. It will all be created by software. Rather than follow an established story with the same characters the need to force feed the viewer with PC wokery had to be catered for first. So we had, characters left out, characters introduced, names changed, genders changed, nationalities changed, ethnicity changed, same sex relationship introduced ... what a mess. Ironically, the outing of same sex relationship by Poirot in the reveal was callous and cruel. It played no part in the plot at all, in fact the portrayal of Poirot was way off the mark. Sophie Okonedo was the best thing in it, she was superb and disappointing that she was wasted in this poor adaptation. Both the TV drama (2004) and the 1978 film were better than this attempt, both being shot on location with actual REAL locations. Watch the 1978 film, it is much better and follows the original plot far more closely.

So flat. So boring. Another fault: they altered the book to make up a background for Poirot that Agatha Christie had not intended. I won't give it away, but the arrogance in yet another remake. It is conceit. Just don't mess with something unless you can do it better. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this rendition of Agatha Christie's classic. The cinematography is worth considering, but the acting and story are not in a positive way. Watching the fabled Death On The Nile be so unemotional and by-the-numbers is distressing as it sails (chugs) on the Nile. The claustrophobic ship and train of course become the site of a crime that Poirot is all but obligated to solve. Beninng as a prickly mother was the best actress here. All in all: i just came back from watching this and it falls flat.

I was looking forward to this movie, but turns out it's a very disappointing waste of time. This movie is only noise with card board characters. Not even worth finishing. It started with a barking dog, very bad sign, then foreign dialogue, explosions, generic characters and bad music. It got worse. Ugh.

Unfortunately, Ken Branaugh's latest Christie adaptation (like his previous Murder on the Orient Express) follows the current trend of using the brand recognition of exemplary icons (Christie, Tolkien, Roddenberry, etc.) to create dumbed down drivel stripped of its original intelligence, humanity, complexity and nuance and instead padded full of 1) tired regressive one dimensional sex stereotypes (women = slight and sexy and men = buff and violent) and 2) preachy political propaganda that is 3) made to appeal to the lowest common denominator in order to make the most money. There ought to be a law preventing people from rebranding Agatha Christie's name or her characters with these all-spectable-no-substance adaptations that pervert the art of the world's best selling author and diminish her estimable legacy in the hearts and minds of new generations. Christie must be turning over in her grave. Thank goodness for David Suchet, who used his clout and own incredible talent to insist on bringing Christie's authentic Poirot stories to audiences in all their brilliance. To the discerning viewer, those who are writing and directing these recent adaptations for profit at the expense of her art are a cringeworthy embarrassment to her canon of incomparable work.

Not a single shot was done in Egypt or on a real Nile boat. The hotel do not exist. The river is cgi. Well all about this movie is fake. Even Poirot is just not right. Branagh portray him as a clown. Even his french is terrible. If you have seen the great 1978 version, where all is done live at the location in Egypt. With a fantastic cast. Angela Lansbury, Bette Davis , Peter Ustinov, Maggie Smith. Gal Gadot can not Even express the simpleste of feelings. You will just hate this one. Please see the 1978 version. A hundred times better!!!
