This film suffers from the worst directing that I have seen for awhile. Everything is close-ups...and they are EXTREME close-ups. Every time someone speaks it seems the director wants us to only concentrate on the mouth, nose and eyes. Two-shots in this film are almost non-existent! Scenes are cut so quickly that one cannot keep track of what's really going on...does the director think that frantic cutting makes a film more exciting?
The script was trite, with the protagonists constantly making speeches in the middle of battle. All the characters along with the plots found in old war movies are here...none of the characters are new and none of the battle directives are new.
Finally, other than naming streets in Los Angeles, what did this movie have to do with Los Angeles? This movie could have taken place in any major city. They could have integrated some more of the Los Angeles landmarks into the story.

but pretty close. I mean, a platoon of Marines with typical light arms takes on an alien force that successfully wipes out strategic units of the Army, Navy and Air Force? Come on. Still, I enjoyed the claustrophobic suspense elements of the narrative. No, the story and characters aren't particularly deep, but neither were either the stories or characters of two Oscar-nominated war films, "The Hurt Locker" and "Blackhawk Down." Good photography, editing and music, hokey special effects.
I like the "High Noon" element of "watching the clock" and wondering just how the platoon will make it to the Forward Operating Base before the Air Force starts dropping bombs. "Battle Los Angeles" is worth a look and is entertaining in its own simple-minded manner. I give it a "6".

its not an alien movie, not independence day, neither district nine, its not worth to be seen at all, why?, the shaking camera ( all the time ), close up's all the time( to escape from wide views ) makes you feel like you are in prison, no one wants to see the details of actors face's all the time, then where is the story, what is the special about this story, effects, effects, and not that special effects? at least show us something different than we used to see in this kind of movies... i think its not worth for cinema, maybe DVD, so you can close it any time you feel bad about it, and maybe you can sit far enough from TV when the director zoom's in his actor's faces...

In my opinion, this movie is a very low budget B movie which is masquerading and being marketed as a blockbuster. The bad acting, plodding musical score, cliché scenes by the dozen, poor and cheap special effects are all present in a very sub standard effort. Loud bangs and constant gunfire are no substitute for a decent story and screenplay. If you are aged 13 and under, you may just get some fun from the constant gunfire and so called action that just plods along until you just get bored with the whole experience of watching it. See the movie District 9 instead if you want to see how this genre of movie should be made.
