Maybe I'm thick, but what did the copper/Seth/brother have to do with kidnapping the kid?? What's the connection?

How in the world did this movie end up being classified under a "CHRISTian Movie?" There is NOTHING CHRISTian or believing or loving about this movie. And, to reiterate what the other reviews already said, none of it tied together in a way that could be understood.

"A Mother's Instinct" (a.k.a., "Her Own Justice") makes the point about a mother's intuition in her desperate search for her kidnapped child. But it goes overboard in its depiction of a mother as vigilante and how she becomes almost exactly like the perpetrator in her actions. Nora and her daughter Scarlett were undoubtedly distraught at the abduction of little Gus, who was snatched right out of the family home. They were also justifiably outraged at the incompetence of the police in failing to follow up on the obvious investigation of the neighbor boy Seth, who had a criminal record and a ton of baggage with the lead detective on the case. But the film took an ugly turn when Nora and Scarlett formed a pact to capture Seth, lock him in a cage, and torture him until he revealed information. The two actresses tried admirably to show that their characters had a conscience. But there were moments, especially with Nora's viciousness, that seemed repellent. It is one thing to trust another's instinct; it is quite another commit felony offenses based purely on instinct. The filmmakers also never provided closure on the fate of Nora and Scarlett after they had broken the law by committing acts of kidnapping and assault. The film ended flat with no denouement. Nor was there any resolution about how Coyle, the bad cop, was treated after he knowingly falsified evidence. Surely, he had committed a criminal offense that merited more than merely his dismissal. Overall, this was not a very credible film viewing experience. If it was inspired by a true event, it is difficult to imagine that the real outcome would be anything like the one depicted in the movie.

***SPOILERS*** Nutty as a fruitcake movie that, incredible as it may seem , is based on a true story about this ghoulish looking guy Seth Durand, Richard Harmon, who's obsessed with his next door or across the street neighbor Nora Betnner's, Josie Bissett, teenage daughter Scarlett Sarah Grey, who's a classmate of his. It's when Nora's 12 year old son Gus, Gus, Spencer Drever, goes missing she immediately suspects that the creepy and death faced looking Seth is responsible in kidnapping him. With the police unable to get any evidence against Seth's involvement in Gus's disappearance Nora together with Scarlett take matters as well as Seth into their own hands kidnapping him and torturing him almost to death, in a steel cage exposed to the elements with only his shorts on, to find out what happened to Gus and where,if he's still alive, they can find him. This goes on for days at a time until Scarlett screws up, by turning her back on him, and having Seth suffering from psychical abuse hunger sleep deprivation and only with his shorts on escape into the woods and finding his way back to Mama's Iris Durand, Beverley Elliott, place. ***SPOILERS*** It's at Mama's place that we as well as Scarlett, who tracked Seth down there, finally get the lowdown of what Seth is all about and why he's acting so strangely in regards to the Bentnner's and especially to young Gus. That's in how he's been treated by his big brother Brian who was killed in a swimming accident some time ago by his coach the now detective Coyle,Mike Dupod, who's on the case of Gus' disappearance! It was Mama Durand who sued Coyle and lost that had her try to get even with him for causing her to go bankrupt, even though she lived in what looked like a $250,000,00 two story house, by driving him with this Gus kidnapping case to suffer a major burn out. We always knew that Seth was a bit nuts but this shows just how out of his skull he really is. Trying to abuse him by trying him up and surrounding him with dead animals as well as using Gus as a punching bag to make up with what his brother did to him was even too much for his mom-who wasn't exactly all there in the first place- to take. That lead to the final explosive scene in the movie where Seth, who was already badly worked over, finally got his long called for comeuppance as he tried to murder both Scarlett as well as Mrs. Batnner but like everything else he did-The big loser-screwed it all up. !

Spoiler... Okay...this movie is TWISTED. Literally twisted. I'm not sure what rating I should put so I put a 5 because it wasn't a bad movie but It wasn't a good one either. Where was justice? This is one of those movie that you keep watching because you wonder what's going to happen next or if the person is right or wrong. Twisted indeed.

To be honest I only watched this because Richard Harmon was in it. And he was amazing, as always. The stroy was fine enough until it reached the second half of the second act and it went crazy.
