"Tenebrae" is one of the best gialli. It's never anything other than trashily entertaining, and it doesn't stuff up the final twists as so many of these movies do. In this case, the final revelation is genuinely surprising, rather than merely confusing, and there are some chilling moments on the way there. "Tenebrae" is also quite a bit more violent than most gialli. Sure, they always hint at violence of an absurd level, but actually don't tend to show all that much. "Tenebrae" has a scene, however ridiculous in its execution, that even hardened gorehounds would have to remember - the stump of the hacked off limb spraying blood over the wall, anyone? I guess, since this one was made in the '80s, Argento was allowing the American slasher craze to influence his movies and giving more gratuitousness to the violence, while keeping the sex and nudity. There's an equal helping of both, but more importantly, this giallo gem is entertaining from beginning to end.

Argento, the giallo master, the giallo king, emperor. For my own opinion, I have not seen any better director than him. But I must admit that I have not seen that much, there are so many from the gigantic Italian film industry from this 60's and 70's period. Giallo which was the true genuine Italian genre, a genre that was not a copycat from US movie, Hollywood industry, such as Western or sword and sandal, or urban crime movies in the line of Dirty Harry of the Godfather...Pure copies, not that bad though. So, back to this awesome feature, the most exciting thing about it is that there are actually two kilershere, one killed by the other one; and all long the film, the audience think it's the same murderer from the beginning !!!! I highly recommand it to anyone.

Perhaps one of the top mystery-thrillers of the 1980s; if you like films like "The 4th Man" (1983) or "Body Double" (1984), you'll fancy this one too. Well-constructed twisty-turny plot, virtuoso camerawork, sudden shocks, terrific synthesizer score, supremely good-looking female cast. It's also surprisingly self-reflexive: the character of the writer can be seen as a stand-in for Argento himself, who uses him as a means of addressing some of the most common criticisms made against his films. This is peak Argento. *** out of 4.

"Tenebre" stars Anthony Franciosa as a novelist Peter Neal who finds himself embroiled in a series of grisly murders,as one of his readers starts to imitate the killings in his latest novel Tenebrae. This Dario Argento's bloody thriller is full of startling plot twists and shocking bursts of gory violence.Plenty of serious shocks and a wonderful musical score by Goblin as well as incredibly gory finale that is among Argento's greatest sequences. As usual, there are some stylish killings, particularly a gruesome arm chopping near the end-definitely one of the bloodiest murder scenes I have ever seen.Argento uses some of the most vivid colors imaginable and like his 1977 effort "Suspiria",he uses these colors to enhance the atmosphere of the film.I'll end this review by saying that "Tenebre" is indeed excellent,thrilling,scary,well-acted and anything else I can think of-simply amazing if I have to say the least!Highly recommended.
