I'll be disappointed if mother f**king Samuel f**king Jackson doesn't win the Mother F**king Oscar for this role. He definitely deserves a trophy for his killer performance. This movie has all the magic - well written and directed, a very talented and diverse group of characters, and lessons about relationships, responsibility and honor that movies these days could use a little more of - and obviously, the world of professional journalism should heed. And even though fart jokes and movies about defending our planet against alien attacks do top my list of must sees - every once in a while it's good to see a movie that gets a little deeper and makes you think.

Resurrecting the champ has the exact story line as a real life incident where a guy was claiming to be Buckwheat from the Little Rascals. There was guy back in the late 1980s or early 1990s that worked at Smitty's in Tempe Arizona that claimed he was Buckwheat from the Little Rascals. He was a minor celebrity in Tempe, like Elvis the Hillbilly, until 20/20 did a story about him. Spanky, another Little Rascals member, saw the 20/20 show. He called the 20/20 and said the guy was a fake and that he knew that Buckwheat had been dead for a long time. There were scandals, retractions, and I think someone lost their job at 20/20. It was kind of sad since he was just a nice old guy not out to hurt anyone. It was fun to go into Smitty's and say hey to Buckwheat. He was always friendly and even had the same hairdo.

Resurrecting the Champ. A tale about men; drained of valor. The true story behind this movie is so admirable I wish I was the one who wrote the play. "It may all be a lie, but the movie is about true friendship, and the true bond between father and son." Whether you've had a good relationship with your father/son or bad, this movie will most likely bring tears to your eyes. I have always thought Josh Hartnett ("Erik Kernan") is a great actor, and I have always thought Samuel L. Jackson ("Champ") is a great actor. But I honestly can't tell if Samuel L. Jackson is playing his role remarkably good, or if Josh Hartnett is the one to make Samuel L. Jackson' role look good. Maybe they are, in fact, a perfect match for television.

I understood this movie was based on a true story of a black homeless man who was pretending to be a well known boxer who was no longer living.....The original description of this movie states the writer meets up with a black homeless man who is in fact a boxer who was long believed to be deceased.....I am confused.....Can you tell me what is the correct version of this movie and if in fact it is based on a true story? I am very familiar with the City in which the writer met up with the homeless person (boxer) and I am very interested in who this person really is.....Can you provide any more information without spoiling the plot of the movie?

I'm sure Josh Hartnett is a real nice kid, and my teenage daughters like him--but he ain't no actor. His attempt at acting is like his character's attempt at reporting: going through the motions with no spunk or soul. Don't blame him, though, blame the director who chose him. Samuel L. Jackson is awesome and convincing, as is Alan Alda as the tough old school editor, Peter Coyote as the wizened old boxing insider, Terri Hatcher revved up like on amphetamines, but Hartnett brings the movie down. The attempt at sentimentality with his separated wife and young son are weak and don't fly. Funny--the girl who plays his wife is good in Cold Case but not as strong here. I honestly think anyone save for Matt Dillon would have been a better casting choice as the lead.

by far my favorite film of the year. intensely personal but the whole audience seemed completely captivated. the story manages to be both incredibly specific-- about the world of boxing and journalism but at the same time universal. everyone i went with related to the movie in a different but incredibly positive way. when i saw the trailer i thought it was going to be a sports movie (so I went!) but this is actually a great drama about love, friendship, family, and--no kidding--how to live a worthwhile life. I hope everyone i know would go see this movie. wish more movies were like this. wtf is wrong with Hollywood that we only get a movie like this once every few years? the boxing is amazing, the acting is amazing, the director is fantastic. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

The Film follows a promising young reporter, Erik Kernan Jr. (Hartnett) desperate to make a name for himself and break from out of his successful father's shadow. The story that could do just that was right round the corner. 'Champ' (Jackson), a local homeless man, who is boxing legend, 'battling Bob Satterfield', a man previously believed dead. The writing of the film is complemented justly by the quality of the acting, which is true quality. What really helps this film along is how it wasn't churned up in the Hollywood machine, it was kept as true to the story as possible. The film captures the emotions and reality of the bonds between family and friendship both good and bad, truth and lies and the repercussions that they make. This is definitely an uplifting film that is worth a watch one evening and will leave you smiling in your sleep.

I cant say I'm a huge movie buff or that I know a lot about movie reviewing. But I will say this. This movie was and absolute masterpiece in my eyes. It was nothing short of a breathtaking performance by Samuel L Jackson and to a smaller note Josh Hartnett. The plot the acting everything rolled into what i believe a stunning movie that deserves far more than what this movie has received. The only bad thing i can say is the ending was a bit sad for me after watching i wanted nothing but a true fairytale ending. After watching this it will be hard for me to see Samuel as anything but The Champ for a while. As said in the title I can only think of one word after just watching this movie ...WOW.
