Sundance's genuine power duo might be discovered in "Thank you, Jesus. Please save your soul "a razor-sharp mockumentary that delves deeper and darker than Christopher Guest ever has or could. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, who play the cavernous pastors of a gigantic Southern Baptist Mega Church, make that voyage conceivable. They're trying to recover from a controversy that forced them to move away from the spotlight and lose their parishioners, thus their financial flow.

I'm not sure, but it seems like this movie was somewhat based on Eddie Long. Eddie Long was a pastor from Atlanta who had a few scandals. I found a couple parts to be funny, but overall it wasn't good. I was surprised to see Sterling a part of a movie like this. It's nice to see him explore different roles. I gave four starts because I like Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown. Many people don't want to accept that many of the things that were portrayed in this movie occurs and have occurred in churches. If you don't like people mocking religions or churches then this movie is NOT for you. If you don't care about religion or church, check it out you may like it.

I gave it one star I would give it negative stars if I had that option. How they got these two successful stars, Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown, to act in this movie is beyond me. This movie is definitely beneath these two actors. Nothing about this movie was good. The trailer was misleading, the storyline was terrible, the ending put an exclamation point on the movie being trash. If you are considering going to see this movie lay down till the urge goes away. Wash your car, clean your closets, paint the babys room (even if you don't have a baby), mow the lawn ... just don't go see this movie.

Nobody likes hypocrites - unless, of course, they make good fodder for laughs, as is the case in this sidesplitting new comedy from writer-director Adamma Ebo. The target here is the hypocrisy often present in the bluster-filled fundamentalist megachurches, whose elaborate Sunday services play like big-budget Broadway productions and for which their pastors ask their congregations to fork over wads of cash - all in exchange for allegedly saved souls and their leaders' ability to live lives of grossly ostentatious affluence. Invariably, though, these schemes come with a catch in which their two-faced preachers get caught in career-ruining scandals that expose just how hypocritical and corrupt they really are. Such is what happens in this mockumentary-style offering about a once-big time Atlanta pastor and his "first lady" as they attempt to rebound from a fall from grace that rings all too familiar in the evangelist community. Filmmaker Ebo's debut feature pulls no punches in the picture's critically biting humor and in its periodic forays into dramatic material, moves meant to draw attention to the innate insincerity of its protagonists (and some of its parishioners). In doing so, the film straddles a fine line between comedy and drama, presenting a carefully concocted mix that works much of the time but occasionally becomes a little too heavy-handed for its own good. Nevertheless, "Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul." makes an impact with its fine performances by Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall, as well as its wickedly delicious wit and ample sight gags, elements that will have viewers delightfully giggling with glee. This one might not have you on your knees, but you might easily fall over laughing.

It's about time someone took a critical - even if satirical - look at the insanity and hypocrisy of one of the biggest church scandals in modern times (for the unfamiliar, google Bishop Eddie Long). I grew up in the church, *in Atlanta*, and can say I'm glad this movie was made. The beginning had some dud jokes and moments. Overall it doesn't hold a candle to shows like "The Office" or "Righteous Gemstones", which it's inspired by. But it eventually stumbles its way into an entertaining enough watch. But more importantly than the laughs was the message. We put these preachers and the church in general on WAY too high a pedestal. We worship figureheads and brands more than God/a higher power. I'm giving this movie a 10/10 not because it's perfect. It's far from that. I'm giving it 10/10 to outweigh the 1 star reviews from all these "Christians" who think this film went too far. As they say in the south, "a hit dog will holler". If you were offended by this movie, might be time to do some soul searching. Maybe pray on it.

Listen I've never even written a review here before and I LOVE Regina Hall so I'm not even sure why I chose to add negativity to a movie attached to her at 2 am. I think it's because I can't get that 1h 43mins back. So unbelievably disappointed in this movie. As I mentioned I love Regina Hall! By far one of my favorite comedic actresses. I also really like Sterling. He was absolutely my favorite person on This Is Us. Nicole Beharie is just an incredible dramatic actress. Then I just found out that Jordan Peele was an Executive Producer. This movie had all of the parts to make it successful. It had everything it needed to be great and it just didn't deliver for me. It could be because I'm not a fan of the format. It gives very much of The Office vibes. Fake documentary with funny. However, any The Office episode you put up against this will demolish this movie. I'm just so surprised and disappointed. I also hate to say this but I felt like it made a mockery of the Church. Don't get me wrong there is definitely drama and scandals in the Church world. It's just some of the things said I know it's going to throw a lot of hate towards the actors even though they didn't write the script. I'm so saddened by it because it just had so much potential. I can't really put my finger on what is missing or what would've made it better but I know that it really should've been reevaluated before they brought it to the screen.

It was terrible! Cringeworthy at times and left me thinking to myself "what the...". The actors were great but the storyline and premise of the movie was very confusing and seemed sporadic. It left me feeling very confused and I couldn't believe a movie like that even made it to theaters. Truly terrible storyline. And it definitely didn't come across as a comedy! It left you with so so many questions and just upset that you had just lost a couple hours of your life. I literally wanted to get my money back for the movie ticket I paid for because it was just so bad...there was a lot that was unanswered and not in a good throughly provoking way, just in a bad WTF that was awful type of way. Truly the actors were great , they played the characters great but the entire plot of the story was bad. Not worth making it into a movie for the cinema.

This is probably Hall's best performance ever. Lots of actors can deliver a big breaking-point monologue, but to do it mime makeup and still make it affecting? That's hard to do. Hall is one of the most versatile, interesting actors in the business.
