These people who say the movie is crap say so because they do not understand the movie through its literature and language that is what makes the film unique and made it a hit worldwide its a shame the new generation cannot speak Hindi OR URDU especially if they live outside of India and Pakistan they loose their mother tongue. If only they could understand the beauty in the language of the film then it would be an even more hit to the younger generation. Anyway the movie to me was a classic and there shall never be anything like it again. I applause all the cast especially Madhuri for her best movie and Aishwarya for her beautiful show and acting was superb and of course Shah Rukh Khan was amazing as usual with Kirron Kher a gem.

Made a complete mess of a good story. The director could not transfer the characters emotions to the audience. He should have spent half the effort on story than on the extravagant sets. Aishwariya and Madhuri were excellent. I didn't think Shahrukh was the best person to portray Devdas, he looked very unconvincing. The direction was nauseating and the dialogues stale. If the costumes and sets were shown on a TRAVEL or DISCOVER Channel I bet the Indian tourism industry would increase ten fold over night.

This is the best movie ever made in all of Bollywood! The costumes, the characters, the lines! Everything! And who ever says that Bollywood cant make movies should go get a life because Bollywood is a million times better than anything the amercican $H*T eaters make. We don't need intense love scenes to show feeling, no kisses to show affection. We make it work anyway. I am half Russian and half Indian, and watch Indian movies constantly, even though I live in Russia. Bollywood rocks the earth and life without it sucks. Hollywood on the other hand, has nothing goo and emotional to produce. If you watched Titanic, and cu out all the love scenes, would you really cry at the end? All that would be left, would be the dance they do. Go Bollywood! I wish you all the best!

Neither the novel was a work of art, nor any film based on it. Devdas is shockingly among the most boring, unidimensional characters Indian literature could have possibly produced! Even Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay had admitted that the novel was a mistake he committed during his 20s; an age when almost all of the youth is into self pitying and self destruction. Shah Rukh khan as Devdas overacts and makes you laugh at times when he cries out loud, and sounds like a hungry goat! With some mediocre acting and an overdose of glitz, this melodramatic crap isn't worth watching for any reason, except for some soothing music. Rating: SUPER DUD! PS: On contrary, Anurag Kashyap's DEV-D is a brilliant attempt, which gives you a positive outlook of the immensely negative character.
