Honour, code, revenge ; sounds more like Japanese and less like the west. That's what this actually is.
It’s a 85% copy of the Japanise 47 Ronin. 7/10

If u expect tons of flashy scenes shooting twerking omg omg scenes.. u will not find it here. But u will find an epic story of honour that is as strong as a steel. This movie bring me back to days when i was an young boy full of passion full of joy clinching my sword with my lethal enemy but this was just a sticks, not an real swords. In this movie Morgan Freeman taking us to the world we always want to and don't want to live in :P A fresh look on classic 7 samurai movie. This movie will be a bit to complicated for normal USA citizen, but don't worry u always got your stars to show you the honorable way to the true America glory. peace

Raiden (Clive Owen) must find a way to avenge the death of Bartok (Morgan Freeman) his master who was sentenced to death for challenging the Emperor's (Peyman Moaadi) Minister, Gezze Mott (Aksel Hennie). The reasoning is that a challenge to the Minister is also a challenge to the Emperor and must be dealt with by death. Bartok did have the opportunity to kill Gezze Mott and regretted not doing so. The Emperor rules that Raiden must carry out Bartok's death sentence. Well, this wasn't in the cards. (it was in the script, however)
It was never clear to me what country is involved in this. Who has Emperors? Japan, China, France? Hmmm I suppose it really doesn't matter as this is not a true story. It does, however, have elements of another movie: 47 Ronin (a good movie BTW).
This has inklings of being an epic, the cinematography was outstanding; the acting: excellent; the music signaled it being so; the fights: bloody, brutal and intense; the scene setups were masterful. You almost believed this was a true story. Kudos. (you're too easy)
The key to this movie is in the words above " Raiden must find a way to avenge the death of Bartok." Keep that in mind and you almost know how this will play out.
I was impressed with the actor who played the Emperor: Peyman Moaadi, who gave a very strong performance even though his screen time wasn't all that much.
Some of the fighting near the end, while good, was always in the dark, blurry, too fast and hard to follow who were the good guys vs the bad guys. (the bad guys wore black helmets)
All in all a well told story with Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen carrying the load in good fashion. (7/10)
Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: No.

May contain Spoilers.
Clive Owen has been in some very famous roles, but this one is nowhere near the shadow of his previous best ones. A story line so wayward, that there was no explanation provided about the place, the system or even a background to the story. Its like you are starting to read a book from the middle. The film does little to try and build on something, but that something is forever missing. Its very very predictable and offers no suspense or thrill. The antagonist is bad enough and you know the story has to end with his killing as there are no other development to suggest otherwise. Even the antagonist's story line was not developed a bit, just in the beginning you are let known that he is corrupt and Lord Bartok as an idealist is standing against his will. You only keep waiting for the end to see how the antagonist is killed and are happy that it has ended and very predictably so. There could have been a twist with all the nobleman declaring war on the Emperor to save the protagonist and his motley group of honorable warriors as the emperor himself allowed the corrupt official to flourish under him. But the Japanese director with a culture so innate and loyal to its Emperor, cannot think of it. Most actors' accents are different from the other and its like the world has suddenly converged in this single kingdom all together, with again no development or explanation or even a hint of why so! All in all I'm surprised that Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman have chosen to do a film with a sorely under developed story line.
