2241. A band of space pirates hijack a fuel transport vessel that's headed for Earth. Things go horribly awry after an alien virus gets accidentally released and turns those infected with it into vicious ravenous demonic beasts. The pirates are forced to team up with the ship's crew in order to fight for survival. Writer/director Brad Sykes relates the derivative, but still enjoyable story at a zippy pace, maintains a generally serious tone that's further spiced up with a wickedly funny sense of black humor, stages the attack scenes with considerable go-for-broke aplomb, and delivers a handy helping of gleefully graphic gore. More, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast: Steve Railsback as friendly android Traver, Alexis Zibolis as feisty captain Holloway, Noelle Perris as hard-nosed pirate leader Kyra, Jared Cohn as the jerky Riley, Paige La. Pierre as the blithely crazy Sadie, Bobby James as smartaleck Mason, Chad Nell as laid-back pilot Briggs, Maija Palsley as sweet medical officer Landon, and Erica Browne as the sassy Alida. The special effects are pretty decent considering the modest budget. Cool surprise bummer ending, too. A real B-grade blast.

Is there a number below 1? Can a plot ever be as shallow as the one I just saw? I have only myself to blame....other reviewers warned me! Can one use anymore rubber as used on these monsters/zombies/whatever? Is it still possible for actors to be that bad in a 2008 Sci-Fi movie? The women's clothing were throw-aways from the very first Star Trek! Every place they ran...they came to the same corner of the set! Can you be reading this and actually decide to watch and have your eyes burned out and your mind seared forever? Last warning....the entire film was made in a three room stage. I'm melting....melting...what a world...what a worllllld...(Poof)

The Pandora, a spaceship carrying an alien power source diverts from its course back to Earth to answer a distress call from the Diana, filled with four beautiful women who are in reality killer pirates. Their plan to take over the Pandora gets side tracked when they accidentally hit the power source which causes a zombie-like mutation. The film opens with a teaser that comes very late into the film. The acting and dialogue are in the "need improvement" category. The action mostly takes place on the space craft set. The monster acting was also bad. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. Lame cat fight.

When an alien contagion is released aboard a spaceship transforming its victims into demonic flesh-eaters, the crew must either destroy the infected or join them. Steve Railsback - yes, the dude from Turkey Shoot and Blue Monkey - stars as Tarver. The Pandora is a freight transport carrier headed toward Earth with a desperately needed new energy supply called Thanatos, which many of the crew members are suspicious of. Then they get a distress call from another ship and no one on board has seen Alien. Nurses from that ship end up being pirates and in the midst of a battle, one of them gets splashed with Thanatos, which turns her into a plaguer. Soon, there are so many of them that they take the ship straight for Earth. Writer/director Brad Sykes was inspired by Alien - of course - but also the films Prince of Darkness, The Thing and Demons when making this.

A fuel transport vessel answers a distress call from a ship carrying 4 female space pirates. Unknown to the hijackers an alien virus called thanatos is among the cargo on the fuel transport. In the process of hijacking the crew, the object carrying the virus is damaged and begins infecting members of the ship. Now the crew members and the space pirates have to work together to survive and stop the virus from making it back to earth. This film has it all. It is oozing in both horror and eerie sci-fi! The thanatos object reminds me of the green ball in the movie "heavy metal" because it is so ominous and evil. Causing grotesque mutations in its surroundings and emitting this creepy green light. it also reminded me of the prince of darkness film with the evil glow and the biological nature of this demonic force from space. Those infected by this evil become terrifying monsters! Candid to the great italian demons film series from the 1980's. Even a transformation moment with sharp teeth reminded me of those graphic italian cinema effects. which i could not be happier about. These are not zombies and its something scarier. The settings look amazing and are very much like the alien films. There is even an android among the crew played by legendary steve railsback who does an absolutely amazing job capturing that character right up there with lance henriksen And i mean that! The space pirates have an old school 60's sci fi type of look which is a nice head nod to those older classics. And brings some underlined fun to a rather scary film. The ships are shot beautifully not looking like cg but actually looking like they are really in space. this film is shot super well with dramatic lighting and such a fitting score! The voices of the demons are very disturbing and really give that extra layer to an already well executed film. Its like a mix of everything i enjoy in a movie. From roger corman classics to italian horror and john carpenter. I will be holding this film among my favorites. Thanks Brad Sykes for knowing how to bring back that practical feel and really bringing your vision to light.

I purchased this movie from Amazon, where it was titled "Space of the Dead". With a title such as that, it surely lured in a zombie aficionado such as myself. But I must admit that I didn't have any high expectations for the movie. However, I will say that the movie wasn't as bad as it could have been. Sure, this is not a great movie by any standards. And as for a zombie movie, then it was not even nowhere near being impressive or memorable at all. But still, the passion of the creative force behind this movie was showing on the screen, and that helped lift up the movie somewhat. The acting in "Plaguers" was as to be expected for a movie such as this. So don't get your hopes up here, because this is as far from being a Shakespearian experience as can be. The special effects in the movie were adequate, given the budget and production value of the movie. The special effects served their purpose well enough, although it sort of feel like you are watching a Sci-Fi horror movie from the mid- to late-Eightees. I didn't really understand why director Brad Sykes opted to have the rescued marooned personnel be all women. Perhaps for the sake of eye candy and a selling point to the male audience? I can only guess, but it didn't really make much sense. All in all then "Plaguers" is not a memorable movie, and it isn't the most entertaining of movies in this particular genre. I am rating "Plaguers" three out of ten stars. And I can honestly say that I am not going to be watching this movie a second time, because it just doesn't have enough contents to sustain more than a single viewing.

One of the worst movies of all times! Acting is so horrible, the whole thing is a blast to watch and if on hallucinogenics (I wasn't) it would probably be even better. Sets look like they were build out of cardboard in someone's garage or basement, and the space ships seem to be constructed from old detergent bottles and mason jars. The script is so bad it made me laugh way too often. The best part was the "pirates," dressed in purple "nurse" costumes with mini-skirts and knee high silver boots! There's something for every stereotypical U.S. teenage male in this flick - a half-hearted female cat fight between lead "pirate" and the blonde bimbo captain (who has the best lines i the film), monsters that make 1950s black-and-white B-movie creatures look sophisticated, plot "twists" that evidence the writing skills of high school drop outs. The dialog and situations vary from the pubescent wet dreams of 15-year-olds to the worst of amateur night in screen writing class. The special effects (e.g. monster teeth) look like they were ordered from the back cover of a comic book, the "special effects" are cheesy deluxe! All in all, entertainment deserving of parody and not bad for a late night fueled by insomnia!
