As a gay man, I try to support the LGBT cause. But when a so-called documentary comes out purporting to profile trans, etc hmesless people a the piers near Christopher Street, I have to call foul.
I live on Christopher Street and have since the 1980's. There hasnt been a homeless encapment of anyone here since then. Back in the 70's and 80's the piers were a crumbling mess and the scene of some very nafarious after sundown doings. The AIDS crisis and gentrification cleared all that up.
Now the piers have been revitalized inot lovely parks for people to enjoy.
Not only did I watch this "documentary" wondering where they found the people to profle, but I actually walked over to the area to see if I could find any of them. I couldn't.
I'm not saying these people don't exist, but they sure arent in this neighborhood and saying so really casts a bad cloud over my people..
