As a parent of two young children I have sat through enough movies that made me long for unconsciousness. This was an exception. It reminded me of the Disney films of yore, a Swiss-Family-Robinsonesque story that was altogether endurable for adults (it helped that Gerard Butler was not precisely repulsive). And my children loved it. The themes of animal friends, a perfect desert island, a resourceful child and loads of (not too scary) adventure were irresistible. My four year old declared it the best movie ever and my seven year old was visibly rapt. And since the adults involved didn't hate it, that counts as a home run, movie-wise. Now if we had been out without the ankle-biters, we would have been a little let down, but I can't really see an adult choosing this as their evening's entertainment.

I actually liked the movie better than the book. That doesn't mean its any good. I guess there is some enjoyment to be had here, but overall this movie is pretty forgettable.

This film had a lot of potential with a quirky premise but quickly loses the plot. On one hand, we have a reclusive scientist and his daughter who live on an isolated island. On the other hand, we have an agoraphobic author. This is a recipe for an engaging and heartwarming story and it tries to aim for that but falls flat and is not so exciting.

4 April 2008. Nim's Island manages to never to go over the top and combines a nice comedy drama genre for the big screen. This movie has elements from The Last Action Hero (1993), Jumping Jack Flash (1986), and The Whalerider (2002), all fascinating looks at either imaginary or fantastical friends or exotic islands and a young woman's connection with marine life. What this movie is able to avoid is Home Alone (1990) dumb slapstick comedy. The script was very sensitive and careful with physical comedy and Jodie Foster's performance was dead on without becoming sloppy at all. Unfortunately, several of the plot points became close to cheesy, the volcano scenes had too much in the way of coincidental events, and the father's exploits teetered on unbelievable. Overall, though Nim's Island handled its material well, usually stayed within the bounds of acceptability in order to provide an entertaining, fun performance by Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin. Seven out of Ten Stars.

I can understand the love that some people gave to this movie because it is quite enjoyable if you haven't watch any movies of the genre, but it is really trash can quality if you are aware of the cliche of the genre.

I thought this movie was sweet. I definitely think kids would love it because it stars an independent little girl, who must defend her island. She has help from her animal friends, like sea lions, pelicans, and lizards. She lives on the island with her dad. Her dad is caught up in a storm and stranded at sea. Nim is by herself waiting for him. Her only contact is by email with famed writer Alex Rover. What Nim doesn't know is that Alex is really Alexandria, a lady whom is far from adventurous. She is afraid to leave her apartment. But Nim's plea for help is enough to get her to leave San Franciso and find the tiny little island in the South Pacific. Alex has a rough time getting there and finally has an adventure that she loves to write about. And being a kid's movie, you know there is a happy ending with Nim's dad. One of the good things about this film is there is quite a bit of comedy. I even found it funny at a time. FINAL VERDICT: I think a lot of adults will like this too.

I watched this movie on TV when I was a kid. I likened it to "Cast Away" but it doesn't have many similarities. It was an average fun movie.

This movie is sooooooooo boring and I strongly believe it's not a movie for people who are older than 6 years old. All the things in the movie don't make sense. The little girl is way too smart and too strong in the movie. I assure you she is even stronger and smarter than batman at the same age!!!! However, besides her,all other people in the movie are VERY stupid and being just like kids. Her father just has unlimited luck and I am wondering how he can survive and get the new boat. All this thing is one of the biggest mystery in the movie history. It's totally waste of time to watch this movie if you think your IQ/EQ is as normal as other person.

so what we have here A young girl inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she's reading , I admit that at first I was doubtful about it, but it's a Very good movie :))The movie is promising since the very beginning Foster did a great job of portraying a . character with agoraphobia, she hit it right on. The rest of the actors did quite well also, Breslin has proved herself to be a known name in the future Its a fantastic movie I am truly glad I had the pleasure to enjoy . I recommend it to anyone. . i haven't nothing else to say go to see it and have a good time with your family :))i haven't nothing else to say go to see it and have a good time with your family :))

And when I refer above to "all obstacles," I mean a script that comes across like one of the animals on the island (all of whom are simply adorable) bit a chunk out of it, no one noticed, and they filmed it anyway. Butler, Foster, and Breslin between them generate enough electricity to power Manhattan or, in this case, at least a small island. They keep you glued to the screen in spite of the nonsense. The story contains a brief scene where an overweight Australian boy, along with his parents, is briefly on the island. He not only sees Mim but tracks her down and makes a connection. Seconds later, he has to leave and disappears from the story. The audience feels much the same way by the time the curtain closes. But it was a fun ride while it lasted.
