My rating is based of my opinion, I liked the concept of a lost girl coming to terms with herself to become happy with a push of some friendly companions. Specifically her yakuza love interest. However, I would've loved more romanticism. The movie is more of acceptance and her rebirth. HUGE WARNING!!! This movie is mainly about her and like 10% about the yakuza man.

This movie is HORRIBLE. It's just plain HORRIBLE. I've been to Japan several time and never seen this sort of seedy. Never once have I seen graffiti anywhere. I'm not saying it can't exist, but some lily white westerner who teaches English during the day is unlikely to be in these areas. The story is a bore. She basically spends the evening getting drunk and looking for a new guy to have sex with. And conveniently, everybody speaks English. The sex scenes are filmed so dark you can't even make out what's going on. Doesn't really matter, however, because the acting is so wooden you'd be doing off. Don't bother with this waste of 90 minutes. It's truly HORRIBLE.

Unfortunately, the current rating on IMDB is pretty spot on. When I read about the movie and watched the trailer, I was hoping it would delve more into the darker side of things with the Yakuza influence, more plot based around the 'Lost girl' etc - but ultimately what we got is just a girl sleeping with a few guys in love hotels because of some 'issues' which never really get explored. It honestly felt like whatever 'plot' there was, was just an afterthought and the movie was more of an excuse to show off love hotels and an attractive actress. Overall I was fairly disappointed - very shallow, next to no plot, and could have been a lot better with the concept it was based around.

Imagine Charlotte from Lost in Translation being more desperate. What would have happened? Your answer is this movie. It's not as good as Lost in Translation, but it's a touching movie. And Tokyo is once more a beautiful scenery for a girl looking for her way in life.

Alexandr d is the biggest positive the film has...I think she nailed it and killed it with her performance...even after the film ends you will feel for her character ..it's so dark and full of mystery ...her eyes express everything... plot was good but the way it's written is disappointing ...I think the screenplay could have been better ..bgm is very good ...climax the way it ends was perfect .but by the time it reaches climax you will feel it could have better throughout the film...apart from the good bgm and Alexandra d performance....the film as a whole disappoints .... nevertheless a good one time watch .....

A lot of the reviews here are asking why is a great actress like Alexandra Daddario starring in this feeble attempt at a 9 1/2 weeks rehash. The reason is she's not a great actress, yet, and might never get there, but perhaps she is bored of playing the predictable yet safe roles.By opening herself to new challenges from exciting and dynamic writers and directors she might get there. Look at the likes of Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Rachel Weisz, they didn't get there by being safe. Good luck to her. PS I thought this movie had some of her most emotional acting.

I'm glad I gave this film a chance. Margaret's character moved me, and A.D gave her life. Not saying that she resonated with myself, but to appreciate this, you have got to experience what it's like to be a stranger in another world, running away from everyone else and just be lost and so desperately seeking for something that will fulfill you. A very familiar feeling. (Natsukashii if you may) Although the storyline feels like very rushed. Hopefully an uncut version will be released. To give more depth and context. Nonetheless, AD and Takehiro Hira were great. I've rewatched this a few times already and still, really appreciate this. And I agree with some of the reviewers of the film said, it really is not for everyone. What can I say, I enjoy these type of films.
