On the last day on Earth, one woman goes on a journey through LA to make it to her last party before the world ends, running into an eclectic cast of characters along the way. How It Ends is an interesting and hilarious concept. Firstly, using characters and having a metaphysical younger version of themselves works in its favor. We have two good lead performances from Zoe Lister-Jones (older Liza) and Cailee Spaeny (younger Liza). Lister-Jones also co-directs the movie. The direction is fine, but halfway through it loses steam. It's all based on celebrity cameos which start out absolutely hilarious, but seem repetitive after a while. Some are meant to be more emotional, which doesn't always work. This was all shot during lockdown so they were limited with their approach obviously. It could've done a little bit more creative in style. We've seen other projects finding ways to keep the creativity up, but it's bland in style. Still, this is delightful. I wonder if they made this into a short-form miniseries rather than a movie, it would've worked better since it already looks like a YouTube show. I will rewatch this when it comes out for a good laugh and entertaining time.

Before I watched the film. It may have meant I missed a hidden gem. How people can say this is boring, or formulaic or "just a series of conversations" (that's what life is for goodness sake!) is beyond me. It isn't sci-fi or a ripping comedy and it isnt meant to be. It is a parable, a heartfelt and meaningful story full of wit and wisdom and excellent performances from the leads. It isn't perfect but it is still so much better than a lot of the mainstream rubbish out there. Give me this over a DC or Marvel bore fest any day. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you have a heart, emotional intelligence and can live without three hours of mindless noise then please ignore the bad reviews, watch it and make your own mind up. Most of you will be more than pleased that you did.

This film start with a woman "Liza" waking up by her imagination younger self, and she checking her phone scene! As turnout, this film is about Liza decide to embark a journey through LA, before the asteroid strike her to death! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the playing dumb scene, overuse of the singing scene, overuse of the slow motion scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the drinking scene, and overuse of the riding bicycle scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, Liza watching the asteroid to strike her! That's it! Completely wasting time to watch!

The synopsis sounds fun, but the actual story is very boring. Nothing happens, and I just don't see the point of the film. I have a hard time in believing that the world is ending, based on how empty the streets are, and how calm people are. The story doesn't convince me at all.

This film probably wouldn't had been created if it wasn't for Covid. It's a quaint film, it contains the essence of a mix between a Woody Allen film and Waking Life. Without giving any spoilers away. The film is essentially about death, and the journey along the way, but cultivated in a feel good way. Those reviewers who stated they don't understand the point, probably don't understand life. Although, I gave it an extra two stars as I was stoned which made it more enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this film. I'm 45 years old and after all my life watching movies and series mostly everything I watch nowadays seems to be a copy of a copy. This movie didn't bore me at all. It makes you think about life, about forgiveness, about how holding grudges mostly harms you and about remember that this life is only a game and that you should never leave the child in you behind. It was fast paced, ironic at times and funny most of the time. I also loved all the performances. A really fine film with a lot of talented people. Really grateful to have watched this. Thanks guys!

If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free reviews, please follow my blog :)
After a day with the emotionally overwhelming CODA, a disappointing Human Factors, and a divisive Cryptozoo, I was incredibly excited to end my day with a light, straightforward, funny little take on a silly yet intriguing premise. I got exactly what I was hoping for. A harmless series of entertaining interactions and interesting soul-searching moments featuring the two versions of the main character. Despite its repetitiveness and formulaic structure, I was never uninvested in the story due to the short runtime and mainly because of the two central, phenomenal performances.
Zoe Lister-Jones and Cailee Spaeny are brilliant together, forming an aura of pure enjoyment and putting a smile on every viewers' face. Their whimsical chemistry elevates the entire film, but it's not just fun and laugher. Lister-Jones and Daryl Wein dive deep into the essence of Liza through heartfelt conversations and heavy debates about so many things that everyone regrets doing in their own lives but never think of making amends. From forgiving family and friends' mistakes to accepting our own missteps and flaws, addressing unresolved personal issues on the last day on Earth should not be something people need to do, but something that should have already been done way before this final day.
Shot during the pandemic, watching a whole movie filmed in exteriors sort of works like a breath of fresh air. Some people might dislike the dozens of celebrity cameos that contribute to sketch after sketch, but I defend that these scenes always serve a certain purpose, developing the protagonist a bit more across each of these sequences. As I wrote above, the cyclic nature of the film drags down some portions of its portions, especially the never-ending wandering around, which becomes a tad boring. Shoutout to Ryan Miller's score, though. It's one of the most entertaining aspects of the whole thing.
How It Ends is an inoffensive, light, entertaining character-study that ultimately accomplishes its goal of being a fun introspection on the protagonist's life. With the use of a generic plot device, Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones create a simple yet repetitive narrative featuring dozens of famous cameos in a non-stop sequence of walking in the middle of an empty street until a new character shows up to offer yet another funny moment. Nevertheless, it contains more heart and soul than what's at the surface. Lister-Jones and Cailee Spaeny carry and elevate the entire movie on their shoulders, delivering two impressive performances that I just couldn't take my eyes off. Despite the obvious tendency to be just an amusing, innocent film, the main character is someone everyone can relate to, which definitely makes the movie much more compelling. Doing something that people regret later is an inevitability of life, but making amends with it shouldn't be left to an extreme chance or to the very last moment when everything is about to end... and this is a message I can get behind.

If you're looking for a movie to have on in the background while you're multitasking on something else I still wouldn't recommend this. If you come across a review with glowing praise then it's probably from a pretentious soul that cuts and eats a candy bar with a fork and knife.
