Lets be clear, this is NOT a documentary! This is a paid, promotional presentation designed to push the US narrative. I don't know what to call this? An Infomercial? This is bad, bad, BAD!!!!

While waiting for a documentary describing ISIS and its origin around Syrian Civil War, actually it focuses origin of evil(!) Assad regime and their peacefull(!) opponent Syrian jihadists. Haven't we seen enough of this Western propaganda about so called evil regime and its obligatory formed free(!) syrian army. This documentary actually confess armed militia, jihadists and other factions, all funded and armed from abroad. Mostly gulf countries. Of course they don't want to say actual countries whom responsible about foreign funds and weapons sent to Syria. So you can guess who are the real responsibles of war on major Syrian cities and their destruction. But our NG documentary does not wanna say that. Western brothership right?! You can hear Syrian goverment's killings or torture in this documentary, and its true, no question. But you can't hear regime's opponents war crimes, tortures, rapes, kidnapping, beheadings... For this documentary, they are just trying to survive from this regime. And ISIS is the answer and also the result of this survival(!) movement. Documentary also says Syrian regime released many jihadists, which is true. But they don't blame them or their sponsors for the war. Always Syrian regime responsible of everything. Well guess what, the regime win the war and regain most of the territory. It seems, despite everything, Syrian people did not choose foreign funded armed jihadists over the evil(!) regime.

Im a fan of Sebastian Junger so i watched this but boy was this a disappointment. It doesnt even try to be objective about the conflict and just blames it all on the EVIL Assad regime. This is not a good source for information, this is pure propaganda im afraid.

I'm going to keep this brief. This was a well produced Documentary. The cinematography was amazing as was the editing and flow of film sequences. What I also liked was the video footage of the aftermath of air-strikes, which painted a vivid, emotionally charged picture in the viewers mind. In actuality this bothered me somewhat for if it hadn't been biased I most likely wouldn't have felt so angered and more so saddened by the circumstance. The documentary barely talked about Syria and mostly about Iraq where ISIL, Da'esh supposedly stemmed from after taking over Iraqi military locations, stealing weapon depots and finally making their way back to Syria. This I found grossly lacking in info. An interviewer then went on to say Assad created ISIS, which is completely and utterly wrong. Nowhere can I find from freelance journalists that Assad was the 'CAUSE' of ISIS. Instead, this was the 'only' thing the documentary mentioned regarding the rise of ISIS. Of course taxation of Da'esh held areas and capturing oil fields fueled ISIS. However, they NEVER talked about who bought this oil or who covertly funds ISIS nor the geopolitical agendas of western and eastern proxies in the war. They mostly filmed the FSA, which has many good people in opposition of Assad but who also mingles with Al Nusra Front and Al Qaeda who want a caliphate and would behead anyone that they deemed obsolete. In conclusion, this documentary paints a perspective of the FSA and the salifist movement and how they've been bombarded with Barrel bombs by the SAA. The documentary talks about ISIS in general terms and mostly uses videos that are not even remotely related or in the locations that they say they are, which maddened me. I hoped to see an unbiased documentary on the war with both Interviews in government held areas, the Syrian Army fighting ISIS as well as the FSA and other opposition groups. I also wanted at least a small portion dedicated to geopolitical agendas of Qatar and Saudi Arabia who fund ISIS covertly. Instead, they painted Saudi Arabia as the good guys, stating that "they had their warplanes ready when Assad started to bomb his people," This made it seem that Saudi Arabia had a stake in the war 'ONLY' for humanitarian reasons, lol. It isn't as simple as that, I am disappointed in this propaganda.

Chronicles everything the title promises along with the faults of the foreign governments that led it to such a huge atrocity. I was stunned from the first few moments and stayed stunned throughout the runtime. The impact of this film is matched by the importance of it. Some of the reviews here are very misleading because the documentary clearly showed the role of America in the birth of ISIS in Iraq and clearly shows how each incidents in both the countries and the policies of foreign countries that worsened the problems. Clearly there are many who wants to destroy the credibility of this film for the insinuation of the situation.

Any so called "documentary" that constantly and repeatedly promotes crying children and poor innocent civilians, who then preach scripted anti regime slogans for the camera is an instant red flag! This was tough to watch as there was only so much political drivel I can watch! This is typical old school propaganda, directly from the North Korean school of Film and Television and it doesn't even try to be objective. Its is totally bias, unimaginative and shameful as it uses false witnesses, paid commentators and so called experts promoting their book deals to narrate this rubbish. There is zero objectivity as it attempts to promote a simplistic, black and white, good vs evil narrative for the uninformed western audience and to promote yet another needles war where the only winners are the US arms manufacturers! Shame on National Geo for creating this trash!
