Reviews suggested that this film was a sensitive, humorous, insightful take on women and their relationships with other women, and with men. Wrong on all three scores: it was crass, unfunny and lacked any real insights. If you can believe Jennifer Aniston as an impecunious house cleaner, you'll believe anything! It was hard to feel sympathy for or empathy with any of the characters, who are mostly rich, bored, unappealing members of the American middle class obsessed with their appearance, their weight, their status. One potentially interesting character turns out to be a liar and a mean exploiter of less fortunate people. What a waste of good female talent like Catherine Keener, Joan Cusack, Frances McDormand. As for the men, to this female at least they were all deeply unattractive!

I liked this movie very very very much. And don't blame my mood at the time it was 2:30 am when I caught it on DISH Network's PPV. In 2 mins I was hooked up with the movie, I mean, when you don't see a movie from the beginning you only need 5 mins (10 at the most) to see if you should see it. I love the black humor in some parts and the specific description for each of the characters. You can feel one of them or you can relate to someone you know, etc. The dialogs are not very well made, but they are OK, generally speaking. If you like subtle, sad, black, etc kind of humor you'll love this film. The great actress and good actors are definitely a plus

I was so excited to see this cast, and the examination of class and materialism and general grumpiness-with-aging was interesting and rarely seen in a Hollywood movie. However, the main character was so passive, and the ending such a let-down, that every person in the theater where I saw it made a "Tsk" sound as the credits rolled--it deflated any effect the movie had been building toward. I'm aware of the difference between a "slice of life" story and a "dramatic ending," but I still think the writer/director owed us a little more. However, if you're a fan of Joan, Frances, Catherine (or Jennifer???), just getting to see them not-overly-made-up and chewing the scenery to bits is quite a privilege. It definitely felt like I'd spent a weekend with them, dirty hair, baggy pants and all. Which is, oddly, kind of a privilege.

This film is about four friends, one of whom is poor and lonely. Now that that's out of the way, I'll tell you my reaction to this film: I loved it! I'm sure there are others who don't care about peoples' lives in films (such as this) but I very much do. The performances here are solid, including the underrated Jennifer Aniston. This is pretty much like "Crash", with white people (like Roger Ebert says). I like the realistic feeling of the film; the feeling of deepness. Although the movie could've delve deeper in here, it still touches my heart. Overall, this is a very satisfying film with great performances by the ensemble cast. It's not as innocent as you think (of course the reason for the R rating). If you don't care what happens in peoples' lives, don't bother watching this. If you do, enjoy it.

As an ensemble piece this should have been good. Unfortunately the movie centres around a rich group of friends, who, through the movie, attempt to show that life being rich is just as hard as if you have no money . A great cast wasted on an awful script

This film is one big bore, The best thing is the short 88 minutes (84 before credits) running time. The female roles are played by well known actresses, Jennifer Anniston,Catherine Keener, Frances McDormand & Joan Cusack. The male counterparts are not that well known (at least to me),'Tis better for all concerned not to name any, as none stood out, neither do the Ladies. The film is all talk, no action, no plot, no story. . There is nothing to really dislike in a film this short, neither was there anything to like. Nice sets tho. Yes there was one guy who may have been gay. as per the way the women talk about him, & a nice scene with a nice also possible gay guy. NOW if they developed these roles more, I know I would have liked the film lots more. see this only if you are a fan of the females actresses.'. Rating ** (out of 4) 63 points (out of 100) IMSB 5 (out of 10)

No plot, goes nowhere, ending made no sense, and the great cast couldn't save it. Poor pitiful me I'm rich and have problems too. Horrible waste of time.

It didn't really resolve any of the issues the characters were going through - it just kind of ended. Which I suppose is more realistic although it felt more like a super long pilot episode rather than a standalone movie
