In this video, Philippine National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik relates the episode theme of Bayanihan or Working Together to the Filipinos' kapwa culture.
Kidlat Tahimik, who prefers to be referred to as an all-around artist, tells of his journey from when he was sidetracked to economics, studying in the US and working in Paris as a young man. He eventually tore his Wharton diploma to symbolically burn that bridge that connects him to this chapter of his life, and returned to the Philippines as an artist based in north.
Kuya Kidlat (he does not want to be called "Sir") shares this episode with professional photographer Arlu Gomez who is based in New York, and visual artist Lizza May David who is based in Berlin.
He was conferred with the highest recognition given to a Filipino artist in the country: the Order of National Artist (Orden ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining). Here is a news coverage of the formal ceremonies at the Malacanan Palace: •TVPatrol:Bagongnationalartists, kin
