Bubble feels way too derivative from far better told anime stories. It seems oddly random the mix of Parkour with the little mermaid tale using a post-apocalyptic-ish Tokyo, definitely it was what stuck to the wall and the creators just scrapped the very bottom to come up with something. The visuals are good, the dynamic action set pieces are jaw dropping at some points but the action alone it's no a redeeming quality for a movie that had lots of potential wasted in a nonsensical story that has been told way too many times and barely becomes interesting. Paper thin and stereotypical characters, non-developed background stories, logic that just don't make sense(even in its own universe), and a resolution that was predictable within the first 5 minutes makes Bubble a disappointing experience.

I thoughtvthe animation was lovely, despite some moments that looked a lot like an animated gif in a dress game which felt off putting, the music was amazing, I will say that, overall I didn't dig the little mermaid but with parkour in a semi dystopian Tokyo caused by what might be alien bubbles? I'm not sure if it's because I watched it in dub that some plot points might have been missing? The parkour competitive aspect seemed odd and pointless? There was a mention of a food bonus upon winning but again everyone was here by choice? The rest of the movie was literally the plot of the original little mermaid which they bring up many times.. It felt like it would of been better as a shirt film featuring some of the story, parkour moments and song rather then a feature length film.

After bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families. I will admit. While the art style and animation is very cool, especially the details they used for the bubbles. As well as the voice acting by the cast and the ost for this film was also excellent. However, the story was very lacklustre as people have said. Though if you have some spare time its a good watch.

Rating: 4.0 Incredible looking poorly written retelling of the little mermaid. Nothing really makes sense when you think about it like these bubbles somehow cause gravity wells which somehow don't consume the entire city, we don't know what the bubbles even are, mermaids? Aliens? Or why they even show up just to continue the theme of destruction and reconstruction? Hibiki's hearing condition, autism, or whatever is cured by the power of Uta's singing and love? The entire ending sequence somehow pacifies the bubbles when in reality they should be even more pissed because Uta is ditching her sister's AGAIN which is the very reason they started popping off. Hibiki drowned twice in this but somehow survives. Why Uta dissolves touching Hibiki but not other humans etc. It's best to just not think about this and enjoy the presentation.
