Highway to Heaven was a TV series that ran on NBC from September 19, 1984 to August 4, 1989. It starred Michael Landon as Jonathan Smith, an angel who walks the Earth, helping souls along with retired cop Mark Gordon, who was played by Victor French, Landon's co-star from Little House on the Prairie. Sadly, French died two months before the final episode aired. Landon went on to appear in two films - including a pilot for a new series - before he died in 1991. This reboot has Angela Stewart (singer Jill Scott) as the angel sent down here to help people in need. In the premiere movie - one assumes there will be more - she takes on the role of a temporary school counselor and gets involved in the lives of junior high school principal Bruce Banks (Barry Watson from 7th Heaven and the Boogeyman reboot) and troubled student Cody (Ben Daon). This was written by Angelica Chéri, Cathryn Humphris and Michael Landon's son Christopher. It was directed by Stacey K. Black, who has directed episodes of Major Crimes, the new version of Walker and Station 19. If you enjoy faith-based dramas with heart, well, you may not be reading our site. But if you do, you'll find something to love here.

I watched the Highway to heaven series; and, this was similar in content. However, is it a good movie? Seriously, I thought we didn't make anymore 'B' movies. As a movie this was mediocre at best. Not only was it predictable, expected, but the acting just about put me to sleep. If this becomes a new series, please change the cast to interesting actors, and get a better script writer. And then there is the question; why do we have to be inundated with remakes of old shows? Doesn't anybody haves enough imagination or talent to write new shows?

If you look at the highest scores for this film, you'll notice the reviewers have ONE review in their history. What does that tell you! What we have here is a beloved 80s series that won't fly in 2021. Male lead? No, no, no. White lead? Heaven forbid! In their effort to erase the past, the producers seemed to have forgotten to tell a good story, which is okay because that was never the intention.

I enjoyed the show, and I look forward to seeing a reboot of Michael Landon's show. Jill Scott is fabulous, and Barry Watson was endearing. I can't wait for them to turn this made for tv into a regular tv show.

Jill Scott was great in the show, but the story was bad. Not enough religious background like the original. The story did not add any feeling that Angels walk among us. The story was just - meh. Michael Landon was religious and it showed in his acting and stories. This was like a Hallmark show that Lifetime picked up.

It is such a heartwarming and beautiful movie! The message was just great! Jill Scott was just amazing in this role. You can just feel she put all her heart and soul into this movie. In such uncertain and difficult times we need more kindness and this is a reminder that everyone can be an angel to those who are struggling in this life.

This is a show that needs to be on tv. With all going on in this world we night light in this midst of so much evil and hate. I loved this and looked forward to seeing more. This show helps people feel that there is someone watching over us all and shows our youth also how to want for more than so much hate. I hope this can be a regular show. I loved the original and think the remake is definitely for the new era. God bless and smooches all.

I would like to see this become a series. With Jill Scott and Barry Watson. Love the reboot and think we really need this now more than ever. It is a win, win in my book. Waiting for another installment. Please don't take long to bring us another.

Jill Scott was adorable as the angel. I loved the series with Michael Landon but it would be hard to duplicate that. This movie doesn't try to do that; it brings the general idea of the original, but it is something fresh, light with positive uplifting energy, something that is needed today with all the heavy negativity around. I hope they will make this into a series ... soon.
