(1991) God of Gamblers II (In Chinese with English subtitles) ACTION/ COMEDY Because of the success of first "God of Gamblers" movie starring Chow Yun Fat and Andy Lau, writer/ director Wong Jing allowed Stephen Chow to star in this second installment of the series without the star of the first one Chow Yun Fat! This time has Andy Lau returning who was in the first film return for the second alongside Stephen Chow and Man Tat Ng as a bumbling sidekick. Chock full of very hilarious spontaneous sight gags which would be lost if it wasn't watched in in it's natural dialect! Another example of Asian Trash cinema at it's best!

This is the first sequel to both God of Gamblers and the Saint of Gamblers, returning to the screen Stephen Chow as Chow Sing Cho, who wishes to learn the skills of Ko Chun (Chow Yun-Fat). Doing so, he seeks the help of Ko Chun's disciple and newly crowned Knight of Gamblers Michael Chan (Andy Lau). The two foes attempt to earn easy money, but must set aside their differences when an old enemy of the God of Gamblers, Hussein (Lap-Man Tan), attempts to discredit them. This is a double treat in one movie, as we see Michael Chan go up the ranks as a new gambling master, nicknamed the Knight of Gamblers, and go through his own gambling adventures. Now, throw in Chow Sing Cho the Saint of Gamblers, this movie becomes a real gambling tour-de-force. I remembered being pleasantly surprised when Stephen Chow first pops on the screen. This is a fast-paced movie that has a very good balance of comedy, drama, action and the supernatural - all helped by some very fine acting with the large cast of characters. There's even a little bit a romance thrown in, courtesy of Sing's old girlfriend lookalike, Dream Lo (Sharla Cheung). Stephen Chow and Andy Lau had great chemistry together in their foe-to-friend relationship. It was funny seeing them play tricks on each other with their powers upon their first meeting, and then joining forces in establishing a partnership to overcome their adversities and defeat Hussein. This was a good show of drama in the movie. And, of course, the gambling matches were intriguing and exciting, a real show of strategy of winning from the gambling masters to the dueling tournament between the heroes and villains. One of the greater movies from Stephen Chow and director Wong Jing, and I think one of the best gambling films from Hong Kong. And, I must also note the very catchy and awesome music score from Lowell Lo. The movie's a real treat for all. Grade A

God of Gamblers, part 2 (1991) was a combination sequel for All For the Winner and the God of Gamblers. Andy Lau reprises his role as Little Knife and Stephen Chow plays the Saint of Gamblers and Ng Man Tat returns as Blackie Tat. The Saint of Gamblers is still searching for the God of Gamblers and wants to follow him in his foot steps. G.O.G. is in permanent retirement and Little Knife has been appointed his temporary heir. The God of Guns is there to keep him safe from a new foe The King of Gamblers along with his disciple the Devil of Gamblers. Can Little Knife defend the God of Gamblers honor by himself or will he need the help of the Saint of Gamblers? A very strange and funny sequel to both films. Jing Wong was so impressed with All For the Winner that he contacted Stephen Chow to star in two sequels made during 1991. This combo went on to make several money making films turning Stephen Chow into an Asian Comedy star and helping boost Jing Wong's status as one of the top film makers in Hong Kong. When these two worked together, they created some of the funniest movies I have ever seen. If you enjoy the work of Stephen Chow or Jing Wong then I advise you to go out and get this movie. You'll laugh yourself silly. It's highly entertaining and a whole lot of funny. I guarantee it! Followed by God of Gamblers: Back to Shanghai featuring Li Gong in two different roles, more Li Gong for your buck! xxx

Spin-off (unofficial sequel) to GOG1 "The Saint" (introduced in All for the Winner) searches for the GOG, who's on vacation in S. America . He comes across his apprentice, Knife, the new "Knight of Gambling" and challenges him to some magic card games to prove he's worthy to be trained .. Meanwhile Tai-Kun, the godson of evil Chan, wants revenge for his family by taking down the GOG name . He orders hitmen to eliminate The Knight, and kidnaps Dragon and Saint's Uncle in the process . Saint and Knight join forces to take down Tai-Kun who's stolen the title of their name and using it to swindle rich people of their money . They're teamed with the beautiful Dream Lo and Kowloon to rescue their friends and expose Tai-Kun during his infamous "King of Cards" showdown featuring the best gamblers in the land All the final yacht gambling scenes are epic

This is in a way the sequel to Chow Yun Fats "God of Gamblers" and Stephen Chows "All for the Winners" as it takes the history from both films to make this. Firstly... Chow yun fat is not in this film though there are clips of him taken from other movies as a joke. This film show The Knight of Gamblers (Andy Lau) life after the film "God of Gamblers", he is one of the best gamblers in the world and his master has sent him out to the public to do charity work. Meanwhile it shows Stephen Chows characters life after "All for the Winners" where he uses his mind powers to help him gamble. It comes to Chow that he should seek to be a disciple of the God of Gamblers, and goes to see if the Knight of Gamblers could help him in this mission. Shortly afterwards another gambler (named Devil of Gamblers) seeking revenge tries to assasinate the Knight of Gamblers and adopt his title for his own benefits. To clear his name the Knight of Gamblers (Lau) and the newly titled Saint of Gamblers (Chow) seek thier way pass many obstacles to give the Devil of Gamblers a match. This film his hilarious and is even more hilarious if you have seen "God of Gamblers" and "All for the Winners". The places that are visited and the people who appear in this film are from its prequels. It is an added bonus when they keep referring to Chow yun fats character and the clips they place in this film which no doubtly are taken from his other films. I would say this is a brilliant Stephen Chow film, and its great how Andy Lau performs his character in a way where it stay true to the original character but all the while seems to be making fun of it. Excellent film.... i would give it 8/10!
