Wonderful movie that shows the best of times and the worst of times. Life as you know it sucks, but this movie really shows its points. If you know Allison Burnett be ready for some interesting beginnings and ends.

Anything with Morgan Freeman is a must try. 90% of the time, brilliant. Well, he always is but sometimes the script or Directing fall short. The entire cast was too notch. Made me think. Hurt a bit, smiled a lot. Definitely must watch.

Beautiful movie on many levels. Wow. Not a light movie. Deep, extremely powerful, very thoughtful, great acting, makes one think and feel. Very memorable. Loved it.

This movie does not have a cohesive plot or point. Half of the time I was wondering whether or not one of the 30+ characters were going to die. This movie fails to movie in the worst ways possible. Morgan Freeman does a great job at being a creepy old man who ends the movie by asking one of the main character's to come be his "little girl". He also watched a couple have sex in a football stadium for longer than necessary. I mean he could have acted a little more surprised or even shocked. Instead he just sits there and watches them for an inordinate amount of time. Oh wait, I forgot that this movie has no sense of time whatsoever.

This flick isn't at all about the plot, but the steps in between. The surprises are layered within the well-constructed dialogue, variety of characters and the performances of the actors. As always Freeman is perfect in understatement, Kinnear is his bumbling & attractive self. Blair, Mitchell, Hemingway and Davalos are inspiring and liven the screen. The support roles add just as much to the story as any and add the perfect amount of colour. This is a well-written and well-crafted film, touching all the right bases and pushing all the right buttons. Absolutely recommended for those who like sunshine on their face.

The book was set in Ann Arbor (Michigan), home of the University Of Michigan and much of the 60's counterculture. The movie was shot and set in Portland. Changing the setting in a story like this is like taking a story set in 1920's New York City and changing it to modern day L.A. This was done because Hollywood film execs don't even know anything exists between New York and L.A. They cast women as men, Frenchmen as Scots, and only rarely do they get history right. If you are from another country or another planet, details like this may not matter to you. If you think things like places and people matter, you may find fault with this film.

Just watched this movie last night. Did not realize that was Billy!! Loved the movie. Great plot. I would love to watch it again, because I didn't catch the very first part. When I first started watching I thought, OK, is this going to be a horror movie? Some really great acting in this one. I'd only seen Billy in Twilight, but now I realize that I've seen him in several things: just didn't realize it. Great actor!! Morgan Freeman had a great role in this one. Not much he stars in that I don't like. I like how all the characters were spun together through a common thread (Morgan). As I said, really need to sit down and watch it again, from the beginning.

Morgan Freeman's voice and face are the treasures of this film of no laughs and questionable moralizing. The film opens with a tossed salad of inexplicable mismatches and matches. One is left with a sense that everyone is starved for affection for a number of reasons. Loss, abandonment, adventure, and dreams are among the motivations, but care and interest in the object of the affection are not. Are we supposed to feel sorry for the lead character, who sees a pretty face, confesses unconditional love, and then invests nothing? Or the love-at-first-sight babies, running to each other to escape their orphan status? The ending does allow one redemption, but otherwise, life in this film is hardly a feast.

One great movie really. A drama showing several parallel life stories that intertwine. The motives represented in this story may have been often used in film art, but it doesn't matter at all, they do not diminish the quality of it , and the way how film was made, the plot and dissolution, gives it a completely unique seal, so that the film is one of the top for each recommendation.

Very nice, honest, soulful, and sometimes very confused film. Unfortunately just an average love drama. The characters are stereotypical, the stories that are written here have been told a thousand times more interestingly and the film never even approaches the depth that it suggests. Superficial mass-produced goods, no more and no less.
