Unsatisfying and slow, reaches no real conclusion.

The story: a religious CIA double agent gets framed by another religious CIA agent. Lots of talk about matters of religious faith is being used to double cross each other.
The bad: no thrill or action. Only talk. And the story is void of any suspense or surprise. From the get go you know what is gonna happen and the characters are portrayed as simpletons.
Not any good? The actor's starring in it are acting well, but the stories' tediousness and the lack of any sort of action or thrill turn this movie into a sleeping pill.
Conclusion: This movie is nothing else but an inferior Jason Bourne clone WITHOUT any thrill or action.

I liked this movie mostly because of the acting, characters and the story. Everything was pretty good so it kept the movie interesting through to the end. Given the story, I can easily imagine how it could have been very boring. Credit, I feel, must go to the director, the choice of actors and their performances.
We watch the movie from the point of view of an ambitious young FBI employee. He accepts an assignment to work with and report on a veteran FBI agent suspected of spying. Over time, he begins to question whether the agent is really doing what he is suspected of ...
This is not an "action" spy thriller, but rather a character-based movie. It is good and builds suspense until the end. If you're looking for an interesting, decently suspenseful drama with great acting, this movie is a good choice.

First of all, it's based on a true story. A story like this already fascinates me. There are plenty of drama and thrills. Those are the movie genres I thrive on. The only thing I will "spoil" is that you will learn so much about the real case. Especially if you get the DVD, which has so much coverage.
The actors couldn't have been better cast. Chris Cooper was the best here. He literally scared me at times! That's a good thing considering his character. Ryan Phillippe brings a lot of depth to his character too. Laura Linney is also well cast as a serious yet witty character. The rest of the cast is great too. I think they all enjoyed this movie.

BREACH is an intelligent and well developed and written Thriller that keeps you glued to the screen to watch Chris Cooper "turn and twist" with his character until the final scene, with excellent performances from Ryan Phillippe and the magnificent Laura Linney. A must see film! With the middle east in turmoil, American CIA agents to be tried in German courts, BREACH is a film that fits right in with what the FBI has been attempting to do with counter intelligence in the world of 2007. How ironic that Cooper's character was captured in February 2001, months before the tragedy of 9/11/01. The FBI has its hands full today.
BREACH makes D.C. a fascinating location and chance to go into the depths of FBI HQ and the cinematography and exterior shots enhance the dark character and evilness of the primary character played so well by Chris Cooper. From American BEAUTY to the BREACH, Cooper is an actor to admire and respect.

This film had me engrossed throughout. It is an intense drama yet exhibits a subtle restraint throughout.
Robert Hanssen worked for the FBI and was apparently a devout family and religious man. In truth he was the worst spy in history and betrayed his country, wife and family.
The portrayal of Hanssen by the actor Chris Cooper is mesmerizing and brilliant.
The true life Eric O'Neill had the task to help capture Hanssen and likewise that portrayal is done superbly.
The whole picture has a realism and ring if truth about it as does the screenplay.
Deserves at least 8/10.

It's a real change, but it's really not brilliant. The whole film is dull. The protagonist is wary of trust at first. Is it just Catholicism? The introduction is very superficial. Some of the junior clerks handled several crises beautifully. The last night play in the park was just nonsense.
