The film started out decent, but then got more cliche and worse as it progressed. The based of true events statement used in the beginning is such a clickbait.
The poor effects and cinematic tools used during the climax and ending of the movie, reminds me of something out of a low budget Bollywood movie.
It was quite distracting.
Furthermore the language from both the Demonic presence and the mother was very ghetto, which is was kinda weird.
All in all, I would not recommend this movie if you are a fan of horror movies. As it falls short on almost every single thing it should offer. Glenn Close did good tho.

The only reason this gets two stars is because the actors are really trying to do some thing with this material. I'm all for a slow burn in a horror movie, but it takes far too long for them to get to the point. They could have taken less time setting up the family trauma and you would still understand that it's this fracture in the family that opens them up to evil. And then comes the "deliverance" and the sorry attempt at ripping off of the brilliant and classic "The Exorcist". It's laughable. The dialogue is poorly written the special FX look terrible, and not in a good way, and it fails on every level to deliver (yes I used that word deliberately) any impact, fear or semblance of a satisfying movie experience.

I don't know what happened to Lee Daniel's. Precious this ain't. As refreshing it is to see Close in a way we have seen before. And she's excellent in whatever part she plays. Audra Day and Mo'nique are both solid. I just wish someone had made a completely different film with the material laid out in the film's first half: a gripping family portrait of a struggling black mother, her kids and her mother.
The way this initially gripping film drifted off into laughable horror territory breaks my heart. No matter how often they tell us "based on a true story", it doesn't redeem what the director did. In the end it became its own parody. Close, Day and Mo'nique deserve better. And shame on Lee Daniel's. I expected so much more of you.

My wife and I watched The Deliverance (2024) on Netflix. The storyline follows a single mother with three kids who has recently moved into a new home, with her own mother also moving back in with her. As she tries to balance her new environment, finances, and the pressures imposed by her mother, something strange seems to be affecting the family. The children begin acting as if they're possessed. Can the mother hold the family together before something in the house destroys them all?
Directed by the iconic Lee Daniels (Precious), The Deliverance stars Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), Mo'Nique (Precious), and Omar Epps (Juice).
This film felt like Lee Daniels trying to make a Jordan Peele movie and failing miserably. The first half of the film was fantastic. The family dynamics and their dire circumstances are well established, and the entire cast delivers solid performances, except for Anthony B. Jenkins, who was inconsistent. Glenn Close is magnificent in this picture and stretches her range in this odd Daniels film, nailing every scene she's in. Unfortunately, the horror elements are awful. The CGI, particularly in the hospital and basement scenes, is brutal. There are moments so bad that my wife and I couldn't help but laugh. It's hard to believe Daniels even directed the second half of this movie. The voice work for the demons is terrible, and the infusion of religious themes to "save the day" completely misses the mark. This movie is abysmal.
In conclusion, The Deliverance has a promising setup but is ruined by a poor infusion of horror elements into what could have been an engaging storyline. I would rate it a 2/10 and recommend that Daniels steer clear of the horror genre.

At first I was at the edge of my seat. I think the way poverty, socioeconomics and these disturbing events was mixed together was brilliant. The way we get into the story of the family and how they interact was, in my opinion, really well written and acted out.
But all of the sudden, there is a weird switch and it becomes standard exorcism stuff, with all the classic effects we've seen so many times before. There is also these annoying errors, for the love of all that is holy - why cannot exorcists tie a decent knot!
Bottom line, decent Sunday movie where the first part of the movie is good, second part is slightly disappointing and unimaginative.

I wonder how many people picked up Kingdom ComeDeliveranceand never got out oftheprologue.Thepacing inthebeginning is pretty bad. There's plenty of exposition dumps and character introductions that need to happen, but it feels like it drags on too long

honestly did not expect the last part... well I predicted it but not in that way, overall the movie doesn't strike out as a scary type.
