The average rating of 6.5 would have been what I would have guessed my review would be assuming it would be a decent movie. After watching the movie, I obviously felt differently. There are some areas which could have been improved... In some cases, some acting. The story (fate of Mr. D) was rather predictable. However, there were truly touching parts of the movie which makes the movie special. When you look at the reviews, you can see that the people who bothered to write a review all felt similarly about how they enjoyed the movie. In my case, I'm not a big Ryan Reynolds fan. I wasn't looking forward to some cool, smart-aleck character who all the students like, but he did a good job. In addition, I was impressed with Andrew Robb. Anyway, this movie is definitely worth a watch.

Ryan Reynolds goes "PG" rated and the results are an OK family flick. This film is certainly no "Van Wilder". I believe the fans of his more outrageous movies will probably be disappointed. David Paymer carries the film as the at first combative, and later understanding rival teacher. "School of Life" is definitely a message movie, clearly defining what interests the students, and what does not. Of course Ryan Reynolds methods are a reality stretch, but the point is made. As a heartwarming tale this only marginally succeeds, because everything is telegraphed, such as the final basketball game. It is what it is, plain vanilla fluff. - MERK

oh my god! me and my best friend were flicking through channels on her TV and me found this movie.. we were instantly engaged in the film.. it was an amazing movie.. with great characters and outstanding sad but realistic storyline and great music, settings, camera angles and costuming etc. at times it is sad. ( i almost cried).. but it brought a smile to my face was funny in parts and very happy at most points in the movie. OVERALL: OUTSTANDING, BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING! What i liked most about this movie was its realistic storyline that may reflect ones life. It is a movie for the whole family and will have everyone on the edge of their seats with excitement and tears. (p.s. keep a box of tissues spare!!) i really recommend this movie to anyone really..

This movie was up for free viewing on Popcorn and I watched it because of Ryan Reynolds, but character actor David Paymer is the real star along with an outstanding supporting cast of child and adult actors. You rarely get to see David Paymer in a serious dramatic role, or even a sympathetic one, but there are no bad guys in this movie, which makes it a nice family film. This of course is Ryan Reynolds eight or nine years ago, a year or two at most after his success with National Lampoon's Van Wilder, a never graduating college student and party animal. So this turn as a committed and creative high school teacher Michael D'Angelo (Mr. D) is a 180 degree turn from the dissolute Van Wilder. Humor and pathos combine to make this an emotionally and engaging film that will make you remember what it was you liked best about your favorite teachers.

I think this movie is great for all age groups anyone could love this movie. Not to mention I love Ryan Reynolds in ALL of his movies. I think this movie shows that you have to look deeper then someones appearance to find out what they are really like. I wish the ending weren't as sad or he would of gotten though it but thats show biz for ya...Well I really wish they would have this come out on video who can we ask so we can get them to make it on video...I wonder HmmmmMmMmmm, I really wish they would. But anyways I really loved this movie and I think everyone else would love it to. Seeing "Mr.D" go though what he did and the seeing "mr.Warner" change from beginning to end it is just a very inspirational movie. But once again I wish the ending was different.

An AWESOME movie !!! Just saw a screening, and I think it is a great family movie with an excellent message !!! Without giving anything away, I would say it is a reminder to all of us to make every day count !!! Set in a high school, it is both funny and touching. A look at the teachers and students, and something I think we have all seen... teachers who go the extra mile, and make a difference in our lives, beyond the 3 R's... The acting was great... Hollywood Pros David Paymer, John Astin and Ryan Reynolds, blending with many talented new young faces that hopefully we get to see more of ! I'm not too sure the reasons behind it being so long coming out... (It was filmed in 2003) ...but, however you see it, whether on DVD or if you can see it in a theater... It is well worth checking out !!! I give it a resounding Two Thumbs Up !!!
